Event: Julimar

Orienteering race 54:25 [4] **** 6.0 km (9:04 / km) +190m 7:50 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

H3 @ Julimar. (GPS 7.35km)

Ran really strongly to #1 only to turn just metres from it. Saw the small gully it was on but not the control (I think it was on the opposite side of a clump of bush from where I was approaching). GPS says 3:40 to the point where I turned, so I estimate the leg was almost 4:00 and turned into 6:30+. Was surprisingly unfazed by butchering #1, especially having seen the right gully and then ignoring it. Strong and efficient through 2-4 and on the way to 5. Climbed up the bald hill to 5 and popped right out next to the control. I don't think there was any really fast option to that one. A bit sloppy through the creeks between 5 & 6 but straight to the control. Out and around to 7 and then slogged through the rocks and thick bush to 8.

Was thinking I had blown a fairly good start by this stage as I was running a hell of a lot. Opened up a bit to 9 and then on to the finish in reasonable form.

A bit annoying having a 2:30 error at the first control - would have been a fairly good time without that.

Happy with how clean I was running in the runnable parts. Julimar ain't what it use to be. A simple remap would be to click on Select All and colour it light green!

Thanks Dowlings - an interesting a totally different course to the standard granite maps we've been on.

Orienteering race 20:27 [4] *** 2.5 km (8:11 / km) +65m 7:14 / km

Sprint @ Julimar (GPS 2.75km)

Felt pretty tired jogging down to the start but felt good once I started. Saw Adrian coming of the white rocks at #2. Clean and reasonably strong through to 7. As I was heading towards 8 I caught sight of it on the other side of the creek and managed to just bash through the creek straight to 8.

Neat enough through the rest and finished the last couple of legs faster than on the H3.

Good fun, if a little tiring.

Thanks again to the Dowlings for access to their course files and to Juffy for the 1:5000 map.

Orienteering race 20:46 [4] *** 2.95 km (7:02 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 9

WA Sprint Champs - Curtin Stadium.

It would appear that something weird has happened with the start times as heaps of the late starters had REALLY fast first splits. Even weirder is that my watch time is 25 seconds longer than the time listed (20:20 on the results). There is NO WAY I nailed that first control by that much. The GPS track suggests I took about 1:34 to the first control and 1:07 + 0:25 is essentially that time. Based on that time alone - I beat Oscar by 20 seconds to the first control??????? Looks like the results times are probably highly inaccurate, and worse, all over the place.

Anyway - apart from having trouble finding the start triangle and reading the course (not the map) at times, this was a great course. Really had to think my way through it. Mostly happy with the run - some obvious better routes could have been taken, but I was on the ball enough to not make any large errors.

Thanks Wades!

Note
slept:2.0 (rest day)

Didn't run Thursday morning due to interrupted sleep with a snotty Lachlan.

That was put to shame last night when Rohan also got snotty and decided that sleeping wasn't an option. It was like having an unsettled new born again.

I WANT SLEEP!
