MTB Ride 1:10:00 [3] 9.0 km (7.7 kph)
shoes: Anthem MTB

Out to Pickering Brook to choose the assembly area and look at a few tracks. We need to start doing a rain dance now otherwise no-one is going to be able to ride up some of the hills.

Flat Paddle 1:30:06 [3] 13.39 km (6:44 / km)
ahr:115 shoes: Epic V12

Running a bit late today so cut it short, Started from UWA and did an hour steady towards the narrows and return then another half an hour with Rach towards Canning Bridge and return. Was quite hot when paddling with the gentle breeze.

Commute 36:00 [3] 16.0 km (26.7 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Slow commute. I got overtaken by a MTB today and made myself just let him go so that I wouldn’t lose repass points.

Ocean Paddle (IOP) 1:13:00 [3] 11.0 km (6:38 / km)
shoes: Epic V12

Session was 5 repeats of a 4 x 2 min set. Pattern for the set was :
30”@L5 1:30’@L4,
2’@L4,
1@L3 1@L4,
2@L4
With plenty of rests. First couple of reps went along the coast as it was really dark, then out to ocean once it got lighter. The sun is only just coming up as the session ends so there is only one week left on the ocean.

Unstable today, probably a combination of wearing slippery tri shorts instead of my normal wetsuit shorts and the rudder not being very responsive. A decent swell was rolling through and I normally just kick the rudder to correct for some body roll but I couldn’t do that today.

The arms got tired quite early in the session but I was still hanging onto the back of the pack so I stuck it out. Shattered now.
6 PM

Run 1:00:00 [3] 9.3 km (6:27 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 5

The announcement of the Espresso date spurred Jake, Lucy and Pete to make an appearance. Between chatting to them and some still tired legs I was happy to just plod along and let Robin run off the front by himself. I made some effort at the end to stick with Rob but it was a struggle.

At least the glutes and hammies were fairly well behaved. I was getting a lot of sharp twinges through both legs after the Killa.

Commute 35:00 [3] 16.0 km (27.4 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Ride ride. I got there despite the best efforts of the wannabe pack riders
5 PM

Commute 36:30 [3] 16.0 km (26.3 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Rode home, despite the mild headwind I picked up a tow down the freeway at about 34km/hr, lifting to 38 when a third guy joined in. I took the lead for the last couple of km’s just to pretend I had done something useful. Legs still pretty dead from the weekend.

Cruisy ride after that, I have decided I prefer going over Kitchener than Marmion on the way home. It’s a bigger but mentally nicer hill.

Flat Paddle (T2 session) 1:09:46 [3] 8.06 km (8:39 / km)
ahr:117 max:172 shoes: Epic V12

Some tired arms and another small turnout from the faster guys left me chasing Andrew this week. The rudder was back in the V12 but it was really stiff and the boat would veer right then as I try to correct it would kick left.

First race Andrew just left me for dead off the line and I couldn’t jump on his wash. Second race I managed to hop on then box him in as we caught the next grid. He almost pulled back alongside before the mark but a crazy Multisport paddler cut him off and he never caught me again :-). I did still get yelled at though by someone who is used to paddling in the ocean far too much.

Third race I again just managed to hang on Andrew’s wash but then he slowed so I took the lead. I spent the rest of the race waiting for him to try to overtake but he didn’t kick. Happy for me at least.

I sat out the next few short sprints since I was chatting to Rach and missed the start. Then I opted out of the round island stuff since my poor rudder had taken enough of a beating too. Heading back I did a couple of sprints then gave Leah some technique advice, which turned into remount advice and we lost the pack.

Not upset to have an easier session considering the race Sunday, body is unsurprisingly tired.
