only missed 3 (of 21) controls...took a while to realize all of the rules.

ran the trail along the Spokane River...lots of rapids and fast water.

not a good day...went into it thinking that there was a good chance I would bail out...11.7k is pretty long especially in the heat. I didn't think I would be totally whipped. I got to #14 and was too tired to continue...took me over 2 hours...so I skipped to #18 (500m) and then in to the finish (another 500m)...that took almost an hour so I was in bad shape....but I did survive and ate myself into oblivian at dinner.

Here's my 5k time trial 33:49. I didn't go to the track but I did run totally on roads for k's 2-6...the first k was warm-up and included a stop to turn the sound off on my garmin since it was bothering Lindsay (insert eye roll here). I was surprised how much slower I was on k's 78&9...we were on flat, easy trails and it really seemed like I was going just as fast...must have been the doppler effect.

OK, I know that I can't count the drive home and that the time spent cheering on string-o runners is not to be included but I forgot to stop my watch when I got back from setting out controls. went for a walk with Schuster...make that "Dirt"ster...only took him 5 minutes to find something really smelly in the woods and roll in it...yuk! gave him a bath with the mango-peach shampoo (go figure) so he's back to his usual sorta-good-smelling self. beautiful day with just enough breeze to be comfortable...putting in some serious dock time :^)

for some reason the garmin did not record HR below 100 when I was kayaking...did I push the wrong button? ....could the life jacket have interfered with the signal? wait...it was picking up the signal since I do remember looking at it and it was below 100 (thinking..."why are my arms ready to drop off and my HR is only at 90??!?!?!"). So it must be a setting somewhere that specifically deals with kayaking. Maybe ny Garmin was on running and it knew I couldn't be running since I was over water??? ...life just keeps getting more exciting!

Note

nope...I got nothing...the day kind of slipped by with a little shopping (a 2 hour event when you're on an island), a walk in the woods with the dog, vacuuming to get rid of all the dirt the dog tracked in, toweling off the dog who then went for a forced swim, planting a couple of plants that I couldn't resist while shopping, finally getting enough water out of the kayak so that I could pull it all the way up the bank (it tipped over while I was towing it back from the marina, but that's another story) and by then it was cocktail hour so I went down to the dock for a glass of wine and a half hour of reading...only to realize that I have already read the book I picked out...thought I might read it again but it wasn't that good the first time.

The little boat would start so I had to take the kayak over to the marina to get the big boat so that I would be able to get off island if I need to (I'm spending a couple of days at the cottage with Schuster...he isn't much fun since he sleeps most of the time but he's 91 in doggie years so I guess he's entitled).
