Orienteering race (Sprint - Canberra Grammar) 22:13 [3] *** 2.5 km (8:53 / km) +45m 8:09 / km
24c

Sprint! I was one of the first starters, so there weren't many people out when I started running around. But this didn't stop me from having a collision about halfway around with a Vic girl head-on (we were both just heads-down running reading our maps and then 'smack'!). I have a decent bruise and sore shoulder - I hope she pulled up ok! I had a lot of fun. I didn't run very fast (I have done zero speed training), but I just felt relaxed and had fun. I often took a wide route around the buildings rather than go through, which possibly lost me a little time - but may have saved me from making mistakes. The main mistake I remember was from 5 to 6 I ran down the little alley next to a building not seeing that you couldn't get through, hesitated and went back (I could have continued around the corner and probably would have lost slightly less time - although the exit was covered by the control number on the map). Other than that, my main failing was not planning ahead. I could have been at least 1min more efficient if I'd actually thought about where I was going next, instead of just vaguely thinking that I needed to leave the control in a certain direction. Overall I was 7min behind the winner, Lizzie, and just over 4min behind Biddy and Bun. Pretty happy with that. :)

Run warm up/down (Sprint - Canberra Grammar) 18:00 [3]

Warm up and cool down.

Note
(rest day)

Feeling lazy. Thought about riding to work today, after picking up my bike last night, but thought that 'bike quads' might not be the best way to go into a sprint in Canberra tomorrow. Instead, the last few days can be called 'tapering'... :)

Note
(rest day)

Feeling hungry and tired - so a rest day is in order! :)

Took my bike to the bike shop with the hope of riding it home tonight, but they're busy so it might not be ready before the weekend.

SA Middle Distance Champs

Had a pretty good run today - I thought the rocks were easy to read and it all made sense. I hesitated a bit to 6, and probably wasted a few seconds on several of the controls taking the wrong way around boulder clusters, then after 7 I headed for 9, as I had my thumb over 8. I realised after a couple of hundred metres and recovered ok, although I was a little discombobulated - probably lost a minute or so there. On the way to 9 I was probably a bit too hesitant going around the rocky hillside, but I should have trusted myself as my plan of attack worked well - another minute or two lost. I also hesitated a little to 14, thinking I'd been there before and trying to work out how I'd gone wrong in the criss-cross pattern our controls made on that part of the map, but it turned out I was mistaken and I hadn't mispunched. I stopped after 15 to have a drink and did my best to power home, but to be honest I didn't have a lot in my legs!

Still, pretty happy with my navigation (although I have no idea how Bridget did this 12 minutes faster - she is amazing!). I remember not so long ago when rock maps used to freak me out. :)
12 PM

Run (Moon rocks) 20:00 [3]

Running to the start, running to collect start markers and jogging around to pick up some controls afterwards.
