Orienteering (Rocky paddock) 22:00 [3]

Ran around to check some control sites for the Night Champs. Dad and Amber were kind enough to help out be checking some sites on the south end of the map. It was soooo nice running through that forest looking at the big rocks on the soft, spongy ground. I've never seen so many people at the campground before - probably at least 100. Lots of families having fathers day picnics I suspect!
They've also put some new posts and stuff in the forest near the campground to try and stop 4 wheel drives getting in and cutting up the soft ground. Unfortunately, it appeared several had found there way around the obstacles and made a mess in the little gullies. And friends of the forest are worried about orienteers!

Run warm up/down (Barrossa Range) 5:00 [3]

Brief warm up and warm down along the road. Can't really log it as too much as we stopped to talk to lots of people!

Orienteering race (Barrossa Range) 48:00 [3] *** 4.2 km (11:26 / km) +215m 9:06 / km

SA Middle Distance Champs

A few showers on the drive out there, but it cleared up for my run. Was a bit hesitant on the way to number 1, spending too much time looking for it when it was literally just 2m below where I was standing and running around from (it must be here somewhere...). Then lost some time on the fifth control going down a gully too early into the green and bashing my way along to the cliff face. I pulled a 0.5cm long splinter out of my arm when I finished. Then got one of my first experiences running in a bit of a pack for a while before I fell a bit behind and just did my best to hang on to the end.

Pretty happy with most of my run, and it was a gorgeous day to be out in the rocks.

Run (Heat exhaustion training) 37:00 [3]

Ran Fern's hilly hill run with hills with Tyson in the midday sun. It was much warmer than we're used to (since Europe, at least) so it was pretty tough. Saw Doug from SARRC out jogging with a couple more girls in the gullies below Blackwood. That's 2 Saturday's in a row I've run into him running.
Now off to the Show!

(rest day)

Needed a rest today.

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3]

Nice ride into town. A guy on a road bike overtook me at the bottom of the Lynton Connector and disappeared ahead. He reappeared behind me at the intersection of Greenhill Road - 7-8km later. I guess I had the optimum route choice!
6 PM

Run (Belair) 54:00 [3]

To the tap at the top of the park and back with the biggest running crew in ages! Tynomite, Troy, Brett, Lauren, Jenny, Zara, Steve, Aiden, Simon and John. We must've looked quite impressive with all those Ay-Up lights flashing through the forest!

This article sums up my feelings nicely.

Run warm up/down (Corporate Cup) 20:00 [3]

Warm up run to the 6:30am train, then from the train to Pinky's flat and around the Adelaide Oval complex, then warm down jog from Pinky's flat to Victoria Square and work.
7 AM

Run race (Corporate Cup) 20:24 [4] 4.5 km (4:32 / km)

19 seconds slower than 4 weeks ago, which was disappointing, but I'm still thinking it's from giving blood last Monday. So instead I'm trying to put a positive spin on it and think it must be like altitude training!

I did manage to overtake a couple of speedy-looking guys that I chased down and one told me after the race when I was feeling a bit blue that I was super fast. That made me feel heaps better too. :)
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 53:00 [3]

Too nice an arvo not to ride home. Beautiful views across the valley as I climbed, and the wattle bird only swooped twice.

Cycling (Commute) 36:00 [3]

Brisk this morning. My fingers were nearly too cold to change gears! Apparently it was 4 degrees up our way this morning - and that was a bit later than when I went out.
6 PM

Strength Training (Upper, core & glutes) 32:00 [2]

Was in my running gear walking down to speed training in North Adelaide, when I remembered that I have the Corporate Cup race tomorrow.

So I changed direction to the train station instead and headed home to save my legs and do some weights.

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3]

Down the hill with Tyson again. Traffic seemed especially stupid today.
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 51:00 [3]

Up the hill into the refreshing southerly headwind. I was swooped by a wattle bird - a first for me.

It's almost getting light enough now for me to resume my dirt-track route up through Shepherds Hill reserve past the swooping magpie and noisy minor. The wattle bird and the noisy minor never quite hit me - just get really close. The magpie on the other hand, is a completely different kettle of feathers...
6 PM

Run (Eden Hills) 33:00 [3]

Running with my sister = happy. Yeah - Rambo's in town! :)
