Rogaine race (Bartagunyah) 2:45:00 [3] 12.7 km (13:00 / km) +680m 10:15 / km
After musli and yoghurt for brekky and decking out in our warm gear, Tyson and I headed out for a small loop to the north, touching on Mt Remarkable National Park.
We had decided at the beginning to leave the controls to the north, especially those on and around Mt Remarkable, out of our path. It's just too steep and thick in there - not enough reward for effort. So we went out to get 6 controls not too far to the north and west of the HH. I put on different shoes (runners rather than trail runners) and my feet felt much better. It had rained heavily overnight so it was quite slippery in places. I remember waking up at around 3am and it was bucketing down on the tent. I felt so sorry for all the poor buggers out doing the 24hr State Champs. We didn't get any rain, but boy was it freezing and windy, especially on the ridgelines that we followed wherever we could.
In the end, we took out the 12 hour - 1st overall. I was really surprised, but I guess that consistent walking with zero navigational errors (just a couple of poor route choices) really makes a difference. Once again - it was really Tyson's win for being such a great navigator.
