Run tempo (Shepherds Hill) 49:00 [4]

Ran down to the fire trails and followed them and the single track around the spurs and gullies to the bottom of Glouster Ave, then down the spur along the tracks to the Ayliffes Road carpark, then back up the Ridge Track, Eden Hills Primary School and up the hill to home.
Felt like I was running quite fast and realised at the park gate near the train station that if i could get home in under 10 minutes I'd do the run in under 50mins (I think my fastest for this run is 54 or 55). Ran hard up the hill and made it in 49 - yeah.
I was so stuffed when I got home that I had to go for a cool down lap around the block which I never normally do after a run from home!

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [3]

Legs felt much better after a rest yesterday and I powered up the hill in the dark.
First I called in to the Kings Head to collect a couple of Polar watches that have been repaired / new batteries. It must have looked weird - girl arrives on bike out the front of a pub, guy hands girl small plastic sandwich bag, girl hands guy money, girl gets on her bike and rides off.

Note
(rest day)

Just really felt underwhelmed with the idea of doing any type of exercise today except walking. Plus, I had another assignment to hand in by midnight tonight (I had one due midnight last night too - catching up on 2 weeks work in 4 days has been fun. As well as my actual work work).

Cycling (Commute) 38:00 [3]

Left a bit late this morning and got caught in cruddy traffic so I couldn't whiz down the hill quite so quickly as possible. Beautiful morning for riding, though!
My legs were a bit tired going up the hill to Belair (like the Pope is a bit Catholic), so I decided not to ride home again tonight.
6 PM

Run (Fern's hilliest hill run) 46:00 [3]

Run with Tman down around the fire/single tracks to the bottom of Gum Ave, up through the windy streets of never ending up to the end of Deane Ave, through the little park and back along the railway line and then Main Road. T was unimpressed with the decided lack of what wasn't up. Legs still tired.

Cycling (Commute) 36:00 [3]

To work. Some guy in a black 'posh' 4x4 overtook me only to cut me off turning left so I had to slam my brakes on. I was surprised at my vigorous hand gestures and the noises that came out of my mouth. Was that really me?
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 53:00 [3]

Home via back streets to Hawthorn and Goodwood Rd/Ayliffes Road and the back streets behind Shepherds Hill Road. Had a nice chat with a guy on a roadie on Goodwood Road who told me I should get slicks for my bike. I'm tempted to find a cheap road bike so I can find out what it's like to ride with hardly any tyres at all.

Run (Eden Hills) 29:00 [3]

Recovery run with Tyson, Troy and John around the burbs and the bush. Legs feel surprisingly ok.

Orienteering race (Middle Marginata) 1:09:55 [3] *** 4.6 km (15:12 / km) +190m 12:36 / km

Australian Middle Distance Championships
Ran W21E again today and totally skewed the statistics. ;)
Couldn't find the first control (11:21), although I was really close to the circle - just too far east. Found 12 and took a bearing to 1 and still ended up too far east. In the end, I saw Tracey go to the control and followed her. Not a great start. OK from here through to 10 which took me nearly 13 minutes to find. I did a parallel error by going over the spur too high and thinking one rocky outcrop I was going around was one that was further down the spur. Then I went into a very similar group of rocks on the side of a gully about 150m south of the control and couldn't work out why the control wasn't there. Eventually I saw some bear rock in a clearing to the north and had an 'oh crap' moment of realisation. Recovered ok from there but was 20 minutes or more behind everyone else by then. Embarrassing - but someone has to have a bad day. I did like the terrain of typical WA bush and lots of grass trees.
