Orienteering race (Pre-Frazzled) 20:33 [3] *** 2.5 km (8:13 / km)
spiked:21/21c

Public Prologue - jog around the rocks after an early start to get the 6:15am flight to Perth. Wow - big rocks. Happy with how I read the map.

Run (Hawthorndene) 39:00 [3] 6.1 km (6:24 / km)

Run with Tyson around Hawthorndene. We looked at a house for sale on Myrtle Avenue to see what you get for under $400K in the area.

Note
(rest day)

Went to a surprise party straight after work. I rode my bike there - but given it was just out of the city on Rundle Road, and I cancelled out any goodness with bubbly, pizza, indian food and icecream, I'm not going to log it. :)

Run (North Adelaide) 37:00 [3]

Run with John, Robin, Simon and Bridget along the river to the weir and back and then an extra lap around the Uni loop with John for good measure while the others did run-throughs. Didn't really feel like running today, and certainly didn't need to, but it felt ok once I got going and I'll have a rest day tomorrow instead.

Cycling (Commute) 38:00 [3]

Legs were pretty tired going up the hill, but I got into it on the plains.

They've erected gradient signs on the downhill stretch of the Lynton connector bike path. It starts at 15%, then 17.5%, then - just as you're about to head into the big, outward tapering U bend, it hits 20% gradient. Nice. Lot's of new 'slow down' signs too - there must have been quite a few accidents to warrent so much money spent on nice signage. :)

Run (Magpie Gully) 33:00 [3]

Didn't really feel much like running tonight, but when 5 keen people rocked up on my doorstep I felt I'd better put in some effort. :)
Headtorches on, down over the trainline to the creek and back past footy practice on the oval and a spookily dark Blackwood High.
Went through all my old school photos and yearbooks last night. I found some classic stuff - including a 1992 schools orienteering camp photo. Gold.

Orienteering race (Narrinyeri Hills) 1:48:00 [3] **** 8.3 km (13:01 / km) +215m 11:31 / km
spiked:18/18c

Started out ok - but I was feeling very tired. Had a bit of trouble at 2, but with lots of other people bumbling around in the scrub I eventually heard a tell-tale 'beep' in the green. At 6 I didn't trust myself enough, so went too slowly. South of the road I just generally had trouble finding the right rocks in the vague contours in the scrub. By 13 I was getting really tired and somehow ended up too far west and got disoriented. Lost about 4 minutes or more there. Then I lost confidence and was really slow to 14, going high but dropping into the green too early and fighting through losing lots of time. Not too happy with the run but I think that with more food and rest it would have been better (note to self for Easter...).
Great day for an event, though - sunny and 24 degrees. When I was control collecting I dropped a bit too close to Mobilong Prison and wasn't sure if the yelling coming from the inmates was directed at me or not so I made my way back into the scrub from the yellow...

Cycling (Adelaide Hills) 2:40:00 [3]

Ride in the gorgeous Autumnal Adelaide hills with Zara and Lauren. Had intended an 8am start from Zara's place and bumped into Lauren riding there who promptly got a flat behind me on Hawthorndene Drive. Luckily I had a puncture kit and Zara roused a snoozing John to help us out. All fixed half an hour later and we were ready to go. Up Queen Jubilee in Belair and up Sheoak Road, then down Ayres Hill towards Stirling, turning off to Sturt Valley Road. Then Stock Road past Warrawong and up Aldgate Valley past the ever beautiful houses/mansions/unachievable dreams. Up through Aldgate to Stirling Organic Cafe for hot chocolate and cakes. Then up Ayres Hill (I've always thought it would be terrible to ride up - but it wasn't too bad) and down the bitumen road in the park to home.
The autumn leaves up around Stirling looked amazing. This was a perfect morning for a ride and great conversation the whole way (except for up Ayres Hill :) made it go really quickly.
