orienteering race (stumble) 2:04:10 [2] *** 7.0 km (17:44 / km) +250m 15:03 / km
spiked:15/17c (injured) shoes: Olway - studs

SVO: Susquehanna Stumble Kings Gap. : Arrived in plenty of time for the noon race and even had Bev make the trip with me so she could look at the leaves and antique stores while I ran. Not in great shape, but I like the map and had been looking forward to the race all season. Started easy at the back of the pack and moved up a little following the group through the first 3 controls. Was with Angelica and Corine when I stepped in a hole and went down hard. Pretty much ended the race there just 9 minutes in. The best case scenario was a bad sprain. I got up and hobbled along in pain and watched the pack run away. Got back up to walking speed but no running. Considered dropping out after 8 when we went near the finish but knew I would hate myself if I dropped out without making an effort to finish. I am the only person to do all 10 stumbles. Could always stop later if the ankle hurt more or I twisted it again. At least I could do the short stumble. Took the road around to H to give the ankle a chance to recover on level ground, then worked my way back through the window.
Navigation pretty uneventful. Not many mistakes when walking in woods with good visibility. Saw a few people in the last window but they were always taking the controls in a different order. The rocks and green around E were enough to convince me there was no way to complete the long course in the time limit. That and my amazing lack of speed on the 1k leg back to the map exchange. Limped in in 2:04. 9 minutes of running and almost 2 hours of walking. At 20 minutes per k ( a pace I was not managing) I would not be able to complete the 2nd loop before the 5pm cutoff even if I had continued. The first 4 finishers of the long were in before me.

Square dancing (rounds, plus) 7:00 [1]
shoes: Walmart - white

Really wanted to get outside for a short run today, Nice weather and a little warmup for the Stumble tomorrow, but in spite of warnings all week that I planned to leave on time for Halloween, I had to leave a meeting just to get out at 6pm after a 9 1/2 hour day. Never made it out for the run but at least I was home for trick or treating. First time in the new house and had heard there would be lots of trick or treaters. 100 total from 7 - 9:15. I wore my mummy costume from last year but this year used duct tape under the wrappings to hold it together instead of the safety pins I used last year.

At 9:15 rushed off to Merry Notes Halloween dance arriving at 9:45 and got to dance the last tip. 9:50-10:10.

Note

Planted the rest of the bulbs. No buried gravel today. Used up the rest of my ready composted dirt. Had been using and and adding to it for years while at the apartment but lasted less than 2 months at the house even with a steady influx of new material. Started a new container. Mostly just the clay soil dug up while planting. Will take a lot of organic additions and time to get it to the consistency I want. Have the raw materials in a compost pile in the back yard, but it has not composted much. Just a big pile of sticks, leaves, and grass.

walk (road) 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

Walk with Bev in the evening. Did some more replanting at her house after watching the Redskins win.
