Orienteering race (Kentish Town Street-O) 1:01:30 [3] 6.08 mi (10:07 / mi) +72m 9:45 / mi
shoes: Saucony ProGrid Ride - 2nd pai

Only remembered about this this morning (thought it was next week). Luckily Dan was finishing early so could pick up kit, and the gig I went to after was also in Kentish Town.

Last of the North London races. Did ok I think, headed south first to Camden -> Primrose Hill -> Belsize Park -> Gospel Oak. Mostly fine, possibly slight misjudgement at the end going for a 30 that I maybe should have missed then struggling to get the last 30 and 40 in. Should probably have missed it out and tried to get a later 30.

Clues rather than post boxes but all easy to see.

Knee didn't hurt at work, or running, or gig. Got off bus at home and felt it again. Not going to worry too much, but it is a bit weird.

Note

Martin Yelling says at this stage in marathon training it's not worth running on niggles for extra miles so didn't go to Heathside and gave knee a break, prob not run til Sprint and Middle Champs at the weekend.

Went to pub to celebrate Budget 2012.

Orienteering race (Wimbledon Night-O) 1:07:16 [3] *** 4.9 mi (13:44 / mi) +23m 13:32 / mi
spiked:9/16c shoes: Inov8 ORoc 280

Really fun night race on Wimbledon Common. Probably only about my third go at night-O and fast becoming one of my favourite things.

1 and 2 took steady but hit ok.
3 got confused with paths - what I thought was a path fizzled out so went back to the junction and started again. Ok but then went up the hill rather than round it and had to go back, slow but found control ok.

4, followed paths but then there seemed to be loads of paths and didn't make sense so beared off a little to hit the pond (which I couldn't see but could hear ducks). Made sure I found and followed the right ditch and came into the control ok from the top.

5, couldn't see in bush, lost minute

6, should have gone back to path I came out of but hit control from golf course ok.

7,8,9,10,11 all fine - especially pleased to take bearing across open to 8 and hit spot on.

12, Vince and Bryn both ahead of me and dived into bushes, so went in after them, after a minute realised neither of them knew where they were and I was no better, so came back out and found the path and then the control fine.

13,14,15,16 all fine.

Really enjoyed myself. Knee hurting towards the end :( so think I'll be taking it easy the next few days.

Note

So legs good after yesterday, this afternoon walked to the loo and back at work and suddenly my knee starts hurting, and is still now really painful

pissed off, and a bit drunk.
