orienteering race (Pre-Frazzled sprint) 15:52 [4] 2.2 km (7:13 / km)
shoes: new Olways

There is such a thing as a clean run! Shannon caught me a minute halfway round but she was scrappy thereafter. Also, I wasn't beaten by any of the junior girls!

running (Kings Park) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

From Richard & Nicole's through Kings Park. Past the lake and really cool playground where I went yesterday afternoon with Anne & kids, past the bootcampers, up & down DNA tower (great sunrise) then to the other playground which the kids had mentioned, to compare it, and back home. Nice run; shins preferred the sandy tracks. hamstring is a lost cause. Now to collect George form the airport and we are hopping on a ferry to Rottnest for the day.

riding (Brownhill Creek) 56:00 [3] 19.3 km (2:54 / km)

Nearly couldn't get my bike out the front door past the huge pile of stuff in the hall waiting to be packed! 'Twas almost bucolic at the far end of the valley where the sheep are grazing, and the morning had the smell of going away on Easter holidays...

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

Just because this isn't weight-bearing doesn't mean it won't tighten up my hamstrings good & proper. I even got neural twinges from the bad hip while in the water, which was most disconcerting.

In other news my bad ankle is playing up again (tendinopathy I'm sure; just because it's on the opposite side from before doesn't mean it's not the same tendon) and the sharp unpredictable twinges when I put weight on it are less than ideal.

Yep, so no running tonight, I will exercise my packing brain instead...

orienteering race (Narrinyeri Hills) 1:25:13 [4] 8.3 km (10:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2140

Event setup by Wallaringans isn't usually a schemozzle, but it was today, so it was after 11 when I started and I was still a touch distracted. Slight womble in the circle on 2 doing a lap of the rocky spur before I found the boulder, on the short leg to 5 the track went further up the gully than mapped so when I crossed the track I thought I was too low & went higher when in fact I had been pretty much on the line. Was okay through the controls south of the road but then on 11 made a parallel error from a track bend (was on the wrong track, also was fantasising about the water at the subsequent control) and ended up 300m NW of where I should have been. Then on the second-last control where the obvious attack was up a clearing which narrowed into a gully, I decided to go cross-country from the fence corner to see how good my bearing was and I overshot the top of this gully then dropped down the next one and came up from the clearing.

Was disappointed not to be under 10 min/km and to be about 16 min behind Steve Cooper. Thought I was running okayish despite being tired, so maybe I lost 8-10 min on mistakes, though the splits printer wouldn't splat so I'm not exactly sure how much time I lost where.

Control collecting was fun, I got to do the rocky scarp with the big knoll by the trainline and go through the culvert under the line. We were packed up by 3, parents & I went to the farm to see grandfather after, so by the time I got home after dropping them off it was 8pm and it had been a 13-hour day.

running (Blackwood Forest) 50:00 [4]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Terrain loops of Blackwood Forest. This was quite an effort and I can see that I should have been doing it every weekend. One lap takes about 10 mins depending on how much of a slalom one makes of log jumping on the downhill. I did 4 1/2 laps because I couldn't face the uphill for a 5th time (it was getting ever-more painful on the hamstrings) and then contoured through the middle. Wasn't as stiff afterwards as I thought I might have been.
