Bike trails at Nockamixon. Haycock and Eastern Woods (lower and upper, but I think I'll stick to lower). That was enough for today. Low 80s, lower humidity.

Orienteering race 58:50 intensity: (24 @1) + (7:32 @2) + (26:00 @3) + (22:01 @4) + (2:53 @5) *** 3.83 km (15:22 / km) +124m 13:14 / km

Real orienteering! French Creek Central on a hot humid day. Cloudy and mid 70s when we started but very humid; we'd had a T-storm and downpour (2.5") at home this morning, but it seemed to have missed FC. Sunny and mid 80s at finish. Tons of sweat was pouring off my hat about halfway through...ewww. But such is summer orienteering in the eastern US.

Spiked pretty much all of them though for #2 I found the rocky ground above it before spotting the flag tucked in the blueberries. Someone else led me into 5 but I was heading right for it. Silly Go control.

Thank you to Wyatt, Mary, and company for the opportunity to actually race again. Motivation!

3.2 km nominal, 100m climb

Green Lane Park, from lot at Deep Cr Rd and Snyder Rd, where I could park in the shade, after dropping Glen off so he could play on MtB trails first. Stayed mostly on the Perkiomen Trail. It was at least 5 degrees cooler in the shade. Upper 80s...too hot for me to work hard on mtb trails.

To Saucon Rail Trail (for shade) and a bit of a ride on that, then back, after Glen took his bike to the shop in Allentown for an adjustment.

20 minutes on gravel, 40+ on pavement, with two major roadway crossings. Low 80s and sunny (after being clouded over all morning; 1" rain last night.

Note

Forgot to note the nature sightings! Five large toads and seven tiny ones, no bunnies. Probably other toads we didn't see but these were on the sidewalks.

Walk to start of Mocanaqua Adv 1 course (UsynligO). Low 80s today and sunny, less humidity than there has been.

Orienteering 1:51:44 intensity: (15 @0) + (23:47 @1) + (1:07:13 @2) + (18:49 @3) + (1:27 @4) + (13 @5) **** 4.47 km (25:01 / km) +98m 22:33 / km

Adv 1 course at Mocanaqua (thanks again, Greg!), intended to cut it short at the end if I was taking a long time or for another reason. I didn't take splits at all of them because I kept forgetting...first split is at #3, I think.

Did 1-13 then skipped to 20-21-F. Had a couple controls where I asked for help (one was a boulder in an area with unmapped boulders so I wasn't exactly sure where I was; the other was a cup depression where I was off to the left and turned left for a bit at the wide reentrant instead of right). Fascinating ridge line with huge depressions/pits between 12 and 13. As I was dropping off the ridge heading toward 13 there was an abandoned camp (lots of logwood framing and rotting tarps). I have a photo on my phone to post later. I was hoping no one was there, and didn't see anyone as I passed by.

Some places slow-going because of either waist-high vegetation or greenbriar vines.

Cut it short because right knee was starting to complain, as was left foot (the one that went in a hole last week), though the last few were in what looked to be an interesting area.

Didn't see any blueberries on the bushes I saw, but blackberries are starting to ripen! A small patch was conveniently located near the finish circle. ;-)

Walking warm up/down 14:42 intensity: (7:05 @1) + (7:28 @2) + (9 @3) 0.89 km (16:25 / km) +6m 15:52 / km

Back to the car. Stopped to pick some blackberries, and also to check out the bat cave enclosure. That's a pretty heavy duty fence.
