Neighborhood, with Glen. Maybe too close after dinner not to feel digestion slowing me down. Also hard to keep a steady pace when walking with someone and talking. Around 80 when we started, less when we returned.

Local bike ride on roads around Center Valley including a loop through DeSales Univ. A little bit of gravel rail trail between Station Ave and Landis Mill Rd.

Sunny and warm, low 80s, but less humid than it has been.

Neighborhood walk.

After 3" of rain yesterday, it was quite humid for most of the day, and upper 80s in the afternoon, so I put off exercise until after dinner/sunset when it had dropped to 80 and there was a bit of a breeze. There are street lights so I don't need to carry any light with me. Few neighbors were out.

AOWN: heard a chorus of bullfrogs in one catch basin, some different sounding frogs in another, and saw five toads sitting on the sidewalk--four of them in one short stretch, and another on a different street. Also one mockingbird that hadn't gone to bed yet, and perhaps a bat. No sign of the fox that's been sighted near the clubhouse, or the bear from the neighborhood across the road to our south.

D&L trail from Wy-Hit-Tuk park S of Easton. About 87F.

Hoped for more shade, but at least the breeze caused by biking was useful. North to where the Lehigh dumps into thenDelaware (we'd biked from west of there to that point on a previous ride), then south to Theodore Roosevelt Recreation Area at Locks 22&23, and back. I have no idea why it's named for TR!

Wy-Hit-Tuk is the Lenape word for "river." Apparently at one time a company stored aggregate there, and built concrete walls to keep different aggregates separated. Picnic tables were located between walls; they're currently partway through the process of replacing the roof.

We saw a few hikers and a slightly larger number of bikers.

Lost Lakes Adv 1 course set by Greg A, using UsynligO. 3.8 km nominal distance. Mid 70s when the sky stayed clouded over. Lost Lakes map includes part of State Game Lands 318.

I knew from Sandy's log this would be a tricky map and area. Three of the first 4 controls were near distinct stream features and I managed them okay, but there are more stream-like things out there than mapped (as well as more marshes/clearings?), and the one-contour spurs were really hard to pick out, especially at the current level of leaf-out of the beech saplings.

I used three "how far" and "which direction" hints to relocate (once I'd tried to relocate the conventional way), to 3, 5, and 8. Apparently I was almost there to #5 but, not seeing what resembled a spur, I started looking around and relocated off the small marsh to the SW (I think). Tried to follow the subtle spur line from 5-6 but wobbled a bit.

Did mostly okay 6-7, but then to 8 I had to re-cross the dense rhododendron-lined stream bed I has crossed from 3-4. I swung south* and when I emerged was farther south than I thought (crawling out on hands and knees); again, almost went to it but missed (no sound) and had to relocate again. When I stopped this time for a hint, I stood right next to a 1m boulder that would be a welcome addition to the map.

By this time almost 1.5 hours had passed, and I was getting mentally frazzled, so decided to head back to the trail, do the last 3, and finish. Except when I attacked 12 from the trail features seemed to line up but I never heard a tone. I may have been too far north. Okay, then, head to finish...but when I hit the stream heading to the pond E of 14 and the woods were nice I decided to try for one last control. I'm not sure I would have found it directly coming from 13 without finding the "pond" east of it first. The pond is currently a low-spot clearing with dry leaves in it.

Then I went to the trail to finish.

I stopped my watch when the tone sounded at finish, but forgot to "cancel race" in UsynligO until later, so the UsynligO app's track also includes my slow walk back to the car.

Humbling experience. No bears, though. Or deer. I spooked a few frogs when I crossed the rhody stream.

Walking 27:00 [1] 1.8 km (15:00 / km)

Start/finish to car. Doubled time to include walk to start.
