Exerc. Class warm up/down 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Shorts and tank top needed today (first time this year for shorts) because it was 70 when I left for class. I go to get warmed up for stretching. :-) (and the comraderie)

Orienteering race 1:12:55 [3] ***** 4.3 km (16:57 / km) +180m 14:01 / km
spiked:13/17c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Brown day 2 on southern portion of Pine Hill map in Medford, MA. Boy, is this map green! (It's largely light green with patches of medium; very little white woods, but LOTS of trails of all sizes.)

More bobbles today. Fine early on but after the road crossing (time for which is subtracted from total time measured; above time is "official") I managed to misread a big rocky hill when I was just 70m short of 5 and took a detour 90 degrees west -- d'oh! Tired of the woods at this point, I took the trail around to the next, then managed to lose track of the little trails to 7 and wandered there too until I figured out the cliffs in that area (control was a 4 meter cliff?! Looked a lot smaller to me). Those two counted for about 7 minutes of error.

The rest of the course went pretty well though I could probably have been another minute or so faster with different routes to 10 and 11, but I won't quibble over a minute.

Finished a few minutes behind Sandy today (and I assume behind Mary Jo too though her result wasn't posted when we left), so presumably I'm in 3rd overall on Brown and F55.

Note

Here's a closer look at my biggest errors, at 5 and 7. Turns out I misread trails approaching 5 (thought I was at the heavier trail when I was at the intermediate/smaller one). Still it doesn't explain the 90 degree error. At 7 it was just very difficult to read everything and I didn't simplify enough.

Click on the snippet map to see my whole route courtesy of my Garmin Forerunner.

Brown Day 1. Despite about 3 or so minutes of error (1, route to 3, 13) I finished 2nd on Brown behind Mary Jo C. who had originally registered to do Green this weekend but who picked up a Brown course map at the start (so she switched her registration).

Warm, sunny day (temps in the 80s while running, up to 90 by the time we left) but not too humid. I was "tricked" by the course setter on the leg to 3 (line went right through 5, whose number was rather obscured by the contours and green on the map, so I went there first before realizing; I would have chosen the trail route to the right if I had realized what was up). A bit of a fight through vegetation to 1 got me a little bit off course; and I overran 13 (being too low), but total errors were in the manageable zone and I was pretty happy (but tired) when done.

Nice dinner later at Legal Seafood with the H-Ts.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Class in Chatham. Legs really tight from pilates class yesterday (lunges, mostly), but loosened up as we went along. Less sore now.

Progress on the computer front -- some excellent Mal-ware removal software found and removed a couple of trojans and other nasties from our home computer. Now to see about updating VirusScan software.

USOF website updates will have to wait until I'm sure my computer is okay.
