Missed the cutoff again. Actually, missed it by a lot; in to the aid station at around 2:40 with over 3 km (straight line distance) left to go. I headed out but messed up 16 to 17 (went too far around spur) so I decided to pack it in and get the last two controls on my way.
Good effort the first couple of hours, though I took a sloppy route choice 2-3 which cost me time and effort; skipped # 4 and headed straight to 5 and hooked up with a group including George H., Bob B., Craig W., Lyn W. and others and was able to stay with them to # 12 but slowed down after that. After the aid station at # 14 decided to head out and try to finish (though it looked way to long to do so quickly; I measured it tonight), but after messing up going to 17 decided to quit. Bummer.
Whether I try again will probably depend on whether I can drop some pounds in the next year. If not, I should probably plan to help out and not run. :-/
Added: FR shows I covered 14.05 km on my abbreviated route.
Local EMPO meet at Moreau Lake State Park (10-12 registration).
Note
Decided not to do a course (partly because of the Billygoat on Sunday; partly because I took a glance at the advanced courses and decided I'd been there before, course setting a few years back). Nice day to be outside, though!
To get some workout in today but not too hard of one, I went to the Y and ran on the treadmill. I varied the incline from 0 up as far as 2 (I know, probably not a big deal for some), but kept the "pace" at around 5.4 mph, more than a slow jog but not fast enough for tempo.
Running (dirt)47:11 [3] * 3.4 mi (13:53 / mi) shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2
Easy (slow) trail run in the Pine Bush Preserve in Albany, chosen for its soft surface (sandy with vegetation so most of it is NOT like sand dunes). Saw a familiar face in the parking lot and said hi and got an update on her son (who went to the same school as ours). Knee only hurt on the uphills; I decided that leading with the right going up hills, with the left going down, hurt the least.
Also did some errands in the area, so it wasn't a half-hour drive just to run.
Yoga class at the Y. There were 4 students and the instructor; my first time so I have no clue how many usually go. One woman was young and really flexible, and the rest of us were less so. :-)
Nothing too exciting, just a series of poses including downward facing dog, beaver (yes, beaver), ostrich, roadrunner, pigeon (I did the best I could), tree, and some others I can't remember. And we did the alternate-nostril breathing thing too (hi, Maryann!), which was kinda fun.
I probably wouldn't go again. I thought it was going to be a pilates class (which I thought to try) but was looking at an old schedule; pilates has been moved to an hour earlier. Maybe next week since I don't think I'll be ready for intervals again two days after the Billygoat.
After I got home I had something to mail to Rob so I walked to the Post Office and back (not at my fastest walking pace because my left leg is a little achy). That's enough for today.
