Running (dirt) warm up/down 4:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Falcon - size 6

Ran around the ball field to warm up and get my legs ready for "sprinting" (my way).

Orienteering race (Sprint B) 40:32 [4] *** 2.51 km (16:09 / km)
spiked:7/8c shoes: VJ Falcon - size 6

WCOC local meet at Crandalls Park in Tolland, CT. Ran Sprint B first to avoid some others who did Sprint A first and started around the same time. [Both sprints used e-punch.] Trouble reading contours around the cliff line used for control 5 (it was detailed enough the circle could have been cut so contour detail was more visible), so I missed to the right trying to figure out where I was supposed to be. Not a big error. Slow in the woods and I did more woods than trail on this one.

Orienteering race (Sprint A) 35:11 [4] *** 2.62 km (13:26 / km)
spiked:7/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

VJ Falcons used in first sprint were starting to rub my achilles tendon (even though I used tape on them; the tape rubbed off too), so I changed both socks and shoes (and tape!) between sprints.

Took more trails, but even so I missed the correct trail to # 1(!) and circled through the construction area near the north end of the map--d'oh!. I doglegged # 2 figuring the trail would be faster than the woods (having already been in them), tentative on route to # 4 (which could have been a little faster but was an easy control. Off to the right on # 5. Did better from there on in.

Very nice courses on a sweet map (by Clint Morse) which will be awesome when it's finished. What a great area.

Decided not to do another course after the two sprints, though I apparently missed the nicest section of the map (up a hill, so I wasn't sad I missed that).

Walking 21:00 [2] 1.3 mi (16:09 / mi)

To the post office (to mail my brother's BD card). 70 degrees, so nice temperature, though it's humid.

Saving my legs for the sprints (and Green course?) at Crandalls tomorrow... :-)

Exerc. Class ((step)) 55:00 [2]

At the Y. I'm so glad I learned how to do the lunges that they do (especially the "around the world" lunges). The girl in front of me must have been new as she had trouble putting everything together...been there, done that.

Strength 10:00 [1]

Fitlinxx equipment at the Y. Upped the weight on the leg press to 90 lbs. Since I've only been doing (usually) one set of 12 reps on these machines I try to get the muscle fatigued by the 12th rep. It keeps track of what I did last time so I know where to set everything.

Note

I think AP-noted injuries/illnesses may be more contagious than previously thought.

Following Sandy and Gail's knee problems mine has decided to act up, though I don't think it's quite as serious, just distracting. I hope it stays that way.

And I just now read about Kissy's AC and her service call with expensive repair. Remind me not to call about my microwave! [It actually works as a microwave, but little things are breaking on it, like the beeper, and the turntable bearing... I just hope it keeps on cooking a while longer. It's only 5 years old.]

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Knee still not quite right, but I was able to do most things. Right quad stretch is more difficult than usual; it feels like there's extra volume behind the knee(?). Guess more ice/IB is in order.

Walking 31:22 [2] 2.0 mi (15:41 / mi)

Walked on roads to test my right knee. While it still feels "funny" it didn't hurt to walk so I picked up the pace to what I could tolerate in 70+ degrees plus humidity. :-)

Will take it day to day...

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Didn't sweat much (despite the high humidity as remnants of T.S. Barry drift through our area), so only listed it as a 1 effort. :-)

Right knee was a little tender before I went, a little more tender afterwards (above the knee, on the outside--Glen says it could be part of the iliotibial band that's inflamed) so I've iced it a couple of times (and will repeat as needed). Not a big hurt, but enough to get my attention.
