Orienteering race 40:23 [5] 5.0 km (8:05 / km) +300m 6:13 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (Pair 3)

Oceania Middle Distance - 11th

Was keen to do well in this, better mind set out of the start than the sprint. Good around the first 4, decided to go over the hill to 5, might have wasted a bit of energy doing that. Alright on 5-7, nailed 8-10. Came out of the forest too high and went to high and left of 11. Stopped at a big depression, worked it out and double backed, lost around 90sec. Good around the hill side 12-15, went straight on the long leg but could have been smoother, bottom might have been a bit quicker for me as I was still keen to run hard. No real mistakes on the last loop either, but hesitated a bit on most of them. Pretty happy that I manged to put together a good race, annoyed that the one mistake I made cost me 4-5 places, would have been alot happier if the run had managed to sneak me into the top 10. Can't complain too much as it was a pretty deep field, and far less people DNF'd/MP'd than in the long.

Oceania Relay, Leg 1 - 6th

Ran with Callum and Matt. Just wanted to cruise around, focus on navigating myself and saving energy for the middle. Pretty much did that, ran along behind the front group at the start, they went ahead on the long leg into the forest block. Sat around in the 2nd group for a few controls, got ahead at a split, stayed ahead around the next loop and was by myself for a while. Caught Ross coming back out of the forest, was a bit surprised as I thought they were miles away, kept it steady around the last loop and finish. Really surprised how close to the front I was as I didn't push the running at all, guess I was pretty much clean on every control. Got me in a good mood about my chances for the middle anyway.

Oceania Long Distance - 10th M21E.

Hadn't really trained with the long distance in mind and didn't have any expectations going in, although I was keen to give it a good crack after a disappointing sprint. Planned to pace myself properly for once so didn't do much warm up and made sure I was running within myself for the first 10 or so controls. Worked well, was pretty solid on the Nav and running. Lost contact on the way to 10 but relocated, got to the circle and searched around the cutty grass for 5mins before finding it. Similar thing at 14 which was super vague, another few mins lost there. Made sure I had my gels early and kept concentrating on, didn't feel fast but finished it off without any other serious mistakes and without hitting the wall. Stoked with the placing, guess a steady run was all that was needed on that map, with that many controls.

Orienteering race 18:30 [5] 3.6 km (5:08 / km) +50m 4:48 / km
shoes: Inov8 f-lite 195

Oceania Sprint - 24th(?) M21E.

Ran straight past control 1 and had to double back, was pretty much fine from then until 20, just a few little route choice errors. Lost my shit in the complex buildings, almost missed a control, ended up on the wrong side of every fence in sight.

Don't think my head or legs were quite ready for this, ran fast but didn't feel fresh, felt like I was battling with the map rather than navigating smoothly. Definitely had potential to be up in the top 5 but couldn't bring it together on the day.
