Walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

Tough day in the office in terms of setup/tear down. Had to schlep all of the equipment and with the unexpected rain, it was not a light load. About 1/4 mile round trip x 8 (or more), pushing a hand cart loaded with stuff. Also, up to the Finish cross country to try to get a radio back to the event center, with not much success, until they moved the Finish to the "correct" location, and then all of the data started coming in.

Back out after to recover the two repeaters, with a general idea where the first one was, and absolutely no confidence that I could find the second one again. Luckily, I had orange tape on the pole, so I kept scanning the upper tree line, and I also must gravitate to the same area - spotted without too much effort. Thank goodness, because I was starting to contemplate whether I could let it stay out there forever or not, or whether I would spend many hours looking for it in vain. Also, I did not want to have to tell PH my sad story on the lost repeater. Need to have the Garmin on in the future and take a waypoint, so at least I have a fighting change. Serious amount of paw paw in the area. Still shocked I found it.

A good day, all in all. Nearly 200 starts, even the Daisy groups who wanted to know if they could get a refund because of the rain. Rain stopped early on, and there were only a few no-shows. Only thing missing was a rainbow. :)

Orienteering race (GF Yellow) 29:33 [3] 2.2 km (13:26 / km) +115m 10:39 / km

Actual per Garmin 220 = 1.5523 miles with 66 m climb

OK, I admit it, I went out with the aim to beat all of the high schoolers, and I knew that the trails could be a little tricky, especially to #2 (trail confusion), #4 (knowing the short cut), and #7 (loop to left is pretty indistinct, and prior knowledge is helpful). Lost time to #1, even though I tried to run UP THE HILL, and from #7 to the Finish - no speed on the downhill. Mission accomplished.

Shared lane for sets 1-2, and 4. Think set 4 longer time included discussing lane sharing or other fiddling. Feeling generally happy about the positive effort.

Note

Boomerang effect...going through a loved one's stuff makes one wonder what one is leaving for their loved ones to find...in my case 12 file drawers of papers. Went through four of those drawers tonight and condensed it down to .5 drawer. Eight more drawers to go, but not tonight...purging is an exhausting process.
