A Saturday QOC event with foreboding weather, so numbers were way down - 107 starts. However, it cleared up by mid-morning, and it was a lovely, somewhat lesurily day.
Ran Yellow in preparation of running way down in Ohio and Georgia. Goal for this year is to win a rankings class for the first time. Didn't make it higher then 2nd on F-Orange about 12 years back during my last venture into the world of slowness and fatness. OK, winning the F-Yellow (same course for 13-14 year olds at Nat'l meets) isn't really my goal, but I may as well have a sense of humor about this whole repairing the body parts thing.
Initial time to beat today was 30:01, so I thought I could do that. Then it went down 28:xx and finally just under 25 before I started. Wasn't sure about getting under 25, after standing and sitting around all day. Then, I really thought I had blown it even though I blatantly cheated by looking at my map for the first control route before I punched start and still managed to make a two minute error. Oops. Cheaters never prosper. ;)
Went around cleanly after that, all the while sucking wind and tasting copper. Yeah!
Good day with Ryan H doing the bulk of the computer stuff, and David L handling the SI-card return, and finally Jeremy G being game to man the download computer with just 60 seconds of instruction while I was out. Lots of help scheduled to set up and close down, and after having a BOTTLE of diet coke for me at the end, Glenn S passed the MD test with flying colors.
Eddie did some more testing with the radio controls, and I think we are making progress there as well.
