Race Timing: EX2 BYB - Wakefield
2 PM

Orienteering race (Happyland - Brown) 1:03:00 [3] *** 3.4 km (18:32 / km) +120m 15:45 / km
shoes: 8 Orange

Map

Timed a trail run this morning, then relieved Sandy from epunching duties (Thank you, Sandy!!). Started out on Brown at 2 PM with my personal goal of breaking an hour, and with Sandy throwing down a challenge of beating her time from the GO control to the finish (275m almost all uphill). Gave both a valiant effort, but a 10 minute error to 2, and running out of steam up the hill meant neither goal was met (Sandy got me by 2 seconds on the "run in"). Next time!!

But, the day was so beautiful, and I did get to do two orienteering courses in two days, so I have nothing to complain about. Well, maybe I will complain about some issues I had with the remote start, having W/Y walk 500m to the remote start only to come back through the finish after two controls, the fact that the remote start was unmanned, and the distribution of the maps at the registration, not at the Start, along with the fact that the Start box wasn't mounted on the sawhorse that said "Start", so 8 people didn't punch the start box when they started.

But, really, it was a very beautiful day!!
10 PM

Note

I have a very sore throat. :(
I should go to bed now.
I hope I can sleep tonight.
That would be nice but unexpected.
Hopefully, I will think of nicer things then my job move, if I am to be sleepless for another night...

Georgetown Game (Noon/Cincinnati) - Stood Glenda up without letting her know - oops!!

O Training (Happyland - Prerun Green) 1:48:00 [3] *** 5.25 mi (20:34 / mi)
shoes: 8 Orange

Map

Francis said he would have the controls out in the woods by noon, and with Green in a totally different area then Brown, Sandy and I did the Green course today. Trashy woods, though I guess a little more forethought would have avoided some of it which I plowed through. I started first, but Sandy passed me after 1 while I was assuring myself that I knew where I was crossing the road. We both hosed 2, but I found it first. Not sure who got to 3 first but we took totally different routes to 4. Together on the short leg to 5 and within eyesight to 6. Control 6 was misplaced, and after we checked off some features in the area, Sandy headed to 7, but I checked in the ditch 100m to the NE and found the control. Not feeling comfortable moving it, I punched and left it for the course setter to move.

Clean to 7, and had already decided to go around on Scenic Drive and the fire road to 8. Hit 8 just before Sandy who had gone cross country and was experiencing knee pain for the last few controls. Finished by going to the GO control and then back to the start, and to the car at Lot G.

Home safely, and then a nice family/friend dinner with Roger, Sarah & Matt (daughter and son-in-law), and Sandy.

It was a very nice day.

Running (Outside) 21:10 [2] 2.0 mi (10:35 / mi)
shoes: Asics Dottie

Did not lie down with Roger after work. Usually I do that and then I am too drowsy and additionally unmotivated. A bit windy, but outside for me today.

Ran to the little uphill (~6 minutes), then walked 1 minute, ran 6 minutes, walked a minute, ran until I hit two miles. Miles were each 10:35 which included a minute of walking.

I would like to say that the actual pain wasn't as bad as what I had built it up as in my mind, but oh, man, my lungs were screaming. But, I made it another day, and I may have worked off a tiny bit of the woe (whoa) is me as well.

Walking (Home) 15:12 [1] 1.0 mi (15:12 / mi)
shoes: Asics Dottie

Walk home. Took the steeper hill today. Thought about the fact that I am now confident that I can do a 30-40 minute rogaine.

Misc (Treadmill) 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Weebles

So lame of an effort, that I had to create a new category for it.
