Started the course early as a vetter, and to be ready to help set up the epunch. Did #1 very well, and then messed up #2. Ran down to the stream and then decided to attack from below since I was down there. Finally found the two wells and went in from there.
Then started hearing wild animal sounds from below. It was on my way to number 3, so I headed rigth towards the sound. It is one of the vetters screaming from the pain associated with a twisted ankle. I am not supposed to mention that he was crying like a woman...

Anyway, he had two controls not working, so I ran in to report them so that we could get them replaced before the courses opened.

Went out again to redo the course unofficially about an hour later. Did 1-5 and then back into the start where I drove a car to the finish,

Mind wasn't in it anymore at that point...

Orienteering race (GAOC Day 1 Green-X) 1:28:00 [4] 5.23 km (16:50 / km) +230m 13:48 / km

:) Not the best run on Day 1. I was about 14 minutes behind maprunner on F40 and 12 behind fellow QOC F45 Heidi. A couple of minutes ahead of Janet on F50.

No real blowups. Very physical terrain, maybe some questionable route choices, but I did actually plan routes to the controls. They may have not been the best route choices, but they were choices. Maybe could have saved about 6-8 minutes in error, and about 6 minutes making up my mind quicker.

I am looking forward to today.

My calves are very sore today. It reminds me that some of the things I couldn't remember doing yesterday were related to the calves - wall sits while raising up on my toes.

Shoveled today for about 45 minutes, but did not even do 1 pushup. I'll double up tomorrow.

Was going to run on the treadmill, but my calves said a break was good.

Warm up lap, slight stretching, 60 jj, 2 minutes of pushups (I did 30 regular and 30 on my knees), flutter kicks, 30 crunches.
Run 1.35 mile.
30 pushups, flutter kicks, 30 crunches.
Run .7 mile.
Variety of stuff.
Run 1 mile.
Done. Good hard workout.

Forecast not good for the rest of the day - a wintery mix - but this morning was just a little spitting stuff and temps at 36 F. Near perfect morning in my book for boot camp. :)
Slept well with help of a sleep aid, but woke up with a shooting pain in my right ear around 4:30. Couldn't fall back to sleep after that, so it was easy to get up and go. Roger went out at 5 AM and got donuts - I only had 2, instead of my usual 4.

Note

Can I qualify the midweek relapse with the fact that I am flying down to GA two days early?! Nah, but, I can try.
