Seabass and I headed over to the other side of the Tucson Mountains for a go at the Hugh Norris Trail. I ran, she hiked, me to the top of Wasson Peak. I didn't think I had the energy to run, especially up a mountain, but it was just fine. It was quite lovely out, about 80 and lots and lots of flowers blooming. I'm no good with flowers, but I do know that the Ocotillos (red flowers) were at the end of a bloom, many creosote bushes were going (yellow), and what appears to be brittlebush (also yellow), not to mention wildflowers in blue, purple, and white.
Took Hugh Norris all the way to the top (4.9 miles, 78 minutes) and then headed back down the way I came. I meant to take it all the way back to the car, but I took a wrong turn. I found myself switchbacking down the wrong side of the mountains and realized I'd taken the Sendero Esperanza trail. By then I wasn't about to go back up, mostly because I had just talked to some fellow who was also on his way down and I was in a giddy mood, running fast and jumping off rocks, as I left him. I didn't really want to go back up there and have him ask me if I'd made a wrong turn.
I figured this was just a good way to get another new trail in, and that I could just take the SE trail to the (dirt) road and then run it back to the car. Then I pulled out my map and realized that would be an extra ~5 miles or so. Luckily, there was another trail cutting off most of that distance. Unfortunately, it was more of a wash than a trail. Fortunately, I was going downstream. Headed back on the road and got scooped up by seabass just before getting to the lot.
This was a good run. I picked Hugh Norris because it's the longest way to the top without any significant descent, so it seemed the most runnable. Probably even better earlier in the day (or in the winter).
Totally different topic: I dumped Firefox today for Safari 3.1. It's fast. Me likey.
