Pig middle. Pretty happy with the run, despite some bobbles and one pretty sizable goof (at least 1:30). The course felt like a long sprint, so I think I was moving faster than I had planned or would have done on a normal middle course, but for some reason that seems like an okay trade-off today. Obviously I could have run better, but I'm satisfied.

Easy noon-time run around the golf course. Warm (low 80s) and sunny but not yet hot. Thank goodness. Not going to be able to run in the middle of the day much longer. Summer is coming [cue death march music].

My legs are sore. My quads aren't sore any more, which is what hurt after Sunday's run, so I'm thinking that the "wimpy" stuff on Monday may not actually have been that wimpy. Maybe it didn't seem hard to me because I'm in better cardiovascular shape than those other guys, but I never do any strength work, so now that's biting me.

Other Cardio 30:00 [2]

Circuit training workout as part of the Physical Training Leader class. I had been dreading this class because I'd heard from the other PTLs in the squadron that the instructor really gave them a brutal workout at the end of the class. I think they're just a bunch of wimps.

My legs (quads especially) are sore from yesterday.

Skated around the bike path a couple of times. All I can say about the state of my legs is "oof". I'm sure the 'wimpy' PTL workout didn't help, with those lunges and bleachers and skips (and lions and tigers and bears).

It was really busy tonight on the bike path. I counted over 120 (different) people on my second lap. Craziness! This includes Mike and Lazslo, so I think at this point I can't consider it a coincidence if I see them at Reid on a weekday between six and seven...

Seabass and I headed over to the other side of the Tucson Mountains for a go at the Hugh Norris Trail. I ran, she hiked, me to the top of Wasson Peak. I didn't think I had the energy to run, especially up a mountain, but it was just fine. It was quite lovely out, about 80 and lots and lots of flowers blooming. I'm no good with flowers, but I do know that the Ocotillos (red flowers) were at the end of a bloom, many creosote bushes were going (yellow), and what appears to be brittlebush (also yellow), not to mention wildflowers in blue, purple, and white.

Took Hugh Norris all the way to the top (4.9 miles, 78 minutes) and then headed back down the way I came. I meant to take it all the way back to the car, but I took a wrong turn. I found myself switchbacking down the wrong side of the mountains and realized I'd taken the Sendero Esperanza trail. By then I wasn't about to go back up, mostly because I had just talked to some fellow who was also on his way down and I was in a giddy mood, running fast and jumping off rocks, as I left him. I didn't really want to go back up there and have him ask me if I'd made a wrong turn.

I figured this was just a good way to get another new trail in, and that I could just take the SE trail to the (dirt) road and then run it back to the car. Then I pulled out my map and realized that would be an extra ~5 miles or so. Luckily, there was another trail cutting off most of that distance. Unfortunately, it was more of a wash than a trail. Fortunately, I was going downstream. Headed back on the road and got scooped up by seabass just before getting to the lot.

This was a good run. I picked Hugh Norris because it's the longest way to the top without any significant descent, so it seemed the most runnable. Probably even better earlier in the day (or in the winter).

Totally different topic: I dumped Firefox today for Safari 3.1. It's fast. Me likey.
