Running (trail) 2:24:00 [3] 10.4 mi (13:51 / mi) +620m 11:41 / mi
shoes: Asics B&Y

Seabass and I headed over to the other side of the Tucson Mountains for a go at the Hugh Norris Trail. I ran, she hiked, me to the top of Wasson Peak. I didn't think I had the energy to run, especially up a mountain, but it was just fine. It was quite lovely out, about 80 and lots and lots of flowers blooming. I'm no good with flowers, but I do know that the Ocotillos (red flowers) were at the end of a bloom, many creosote bushes were going (yellow), and what appears to be brittlebush (also yellow), not to mention wildflowers in blue, purple, and white.

Took Hugh Norris all the way to the top (4.9 miles, 78 minutes) and then headed back down the way I came. I meant to take it all the way back to the car, but I took a wrong turn. I found myself switchbacking down the wrong side of the mountains and realized I'd taken the Sendero Esperanza trail. By then I wasn't about to go back up, mostly because I had just talked to some fellow who was also on his way down and I was in a giddy mood, running fast and jumping off rocks, as I left him. I didn't really want to go back up there and have him ask me if I'd made a wrong turn.

I figured this was just a good way to get another new trail in, and that I could just take the SE trail to the (dirt) road and then run it back to the car. Then I pulled out my map and realized that would be an extra ~5 miles or so. Luckily, there was another trail cutting off most of that distance. Unfortunately, it was more of a wash than a trail. Fortunately, I was going downstream. Headed back on the road and got scooped up by seabass just before getting to the lot.

This was a good run. I picked Hugh Norris because it's the longest way to the top without any significant descent, so it seemed the most runnable. Probably even better earlier in the day (or in the winter).

Totally different topic: I dumped Firefox today for Safari 3.1. It's fast. Me likey.

Woah, I'm going to have to recalibrate my eyeballs to the new layout.

Cycling (road) 20:00 [2]

Ride in, on seabass' bike because I was running late and had a flat on mine. I felt like a clown. Plus, her bike needs something of a tune-up...

Strength/Core (stretching) 8:00 [1]

Some good stretching before PT.

Running (road) 34:00 [2] 3.58 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Kayano XII (pink)

Ran from the sq to PT, then two laps of the golf course track (each 1.5 mi). Then we "played" football for half an hour (totally unloggable) and then I ran back to the squadron (it's really close), beating just about everybody who had driven...

Just got my approval to go to the Pig! I really wasn't expecting to be able to go. Sweet!

Cycling (road) 20:00 [2]

Home, with a brief stop at the community center for some FedExing. This is significant because I resisted buying any of the cookies that are so cruely placed right on the counter.

Running (drills) 10:00 [1]
shoes: Gus (Asics 2120)

WOG running drills. Starting back up easy since it's been a while.

Running intervals (road/dirt) 1:10:00 intensity: (48:00 @2) + (20:00 @4) + (2:00 @5) 7.9 mi (8:52 / mi)
shoes: Gus (Asics 2120)

WOG. Legs felt like lead to start with, not surprising at all given the quality and quantity of my sleep lately. Quite fitting that I am to participate in a sleep/fatigue survey for the flight docs the next couple of weeks. I wish they could have nabbed me two weeks ago - I could have shown them crazy sleep and flying schedules.

- warmup (reverse Viola)
- 4x strides
- running drills
- 10x (1 min hard + 1 min easy)
- an extra lap of the golf course to warmdown

I did the hard minutes at 6:30-7:00/mi pace with the recovery minutes at around 9:30 pace.

Saw Mike and Laszlo (from the Ragnar team) running the opposite direction and stopped to chat the second time around. The small world of Tucson...

Running (road/dirt) 38:00 [2] 4.1 mi (9:16 / mi)

Night run. FR won't turn on. Found two other watches that take splits, both dead. I have a watch morgue.

Artefact of the weekend, I'm sure.

Okay, so apparently artefact and artifact are both acceptable spellings, though I'm not sure that they are used interchangeably in all settings. Artefact came naturally to me when I typed, even though I'm sure I see artifact more often. Strange.
