Road running 1:41:21 [2] 11.2 mi (9:03 / mi)
ahr:146 max:171 shoes: BA7

Reservoir loop, solo, pm run clockwise, cool temps, light drizzle for 10 min in the middle. Saw some cyclists, but no other runners. Holden has begun to clean up roadside debris from the ice storm. Some segments of the roads were recently swept.

Hiking 1:19:00 [3] 4.0 mi (19:45 / mi) +200m 17:06 / mi
shoes: Salomon trail shoes

Hiked on Mt. Toby with my sister, from Reservation Rd along Tower Rd up to the Upper LInk Trail, and down the same way. 40 min up, 38 min down. Light rain occasionally fell. The footing was squishy in places; too wet to mountain bike, but when dry it should be excellent. I will have to look into the Mt. Toby trail race in August.

The woods look immaculate and inviting. I saw not a single piece of litter along the trail we hiked, which compares favorably with Mt. Wachusett.

Cycling 41:17 [1] 10.0 mi (4:08 / mi)

Biked from home to my Dr.'s office for a physical. I've frequently wanted to do this, but never had the free time. Now that I'm on sabbatical, and the weather was perfect, what a time.

21:xx outbound, 19:25 back.

Road running intervals 43:12 [2] 4.8 mi (9:00 / mi)
ahr:147 max:162 shoes: BA8

From Daniel's karate studio, fartlek after the first mile. Legs felt a bit fatigued (from morning's bike ride?). L arm achy, too. I walked some in alternation with brief, harder efforts. My HR was not rising too much during the hard efforts, so I guess I was not going that hard.

I'm glad I didn't go to the club 5K race today; I just didn't have a race effort in me.

Note

Got a tetanus booster today. It has been 10 years since my last tetanus shot, which means it was 10 years ago this spring/summer that I began doing triathlons. (The prior tetanus shot was in response to a foot scraped by a rock? during an open water swim.) Seems like a long time ago.

My L shoulder has begun to be tender where I got the shot. LIke someone hit me really hard in a very tiny area.

Orienteering race 51:55 [4] 3.1 km (16:45 / km)
ahr:136 max:162 shoes: Jalas2

Park-O at Franklin Park. First, let me say for the record, I hate driving in Boston. I think I can get to the Arborway OK, but then the last 1.5M was sloppy, just like my orienteering some times. :-)

The orienteering was OK, with a couple of good legs, but a couple of big errors. I misread the map on #8, thinking I was looking for a reentrant when the feature was a spur. I eventually relocated about 200+ m away from where I should have been, and while carefully approaching the control a second time, went right through where I had been previously. There was a fence that was confusing me there, but once I started looking for spur instead of reentrant, I was able to run beyond where I had become stuck.

Strength 45:00 [1]

Post hole digging at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm, in Lincoln. The entire volunteer stint was about 3 hours, but this is the loggable essence. We did not call 1-800-DIG-SAFE before digging, and ran into some buried cables that I thought were irrigation tubes. Turned out they are electrical lines (which I assume were live).
