Running hills (Fell) 17:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Recce of the Great Lakes race with Jed.
From Old Dungeon Ghyll and up a bit of The Band. Had to lift a sheep off a cattlegrid before we got to the farm!

Walking hills (Fell) 49:30 [1]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Started to snow a little when we got to the top. Good views though.
12 PM

Running hills (Fell) 56:30 [2]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Across to Esk Pike to Great End and over to Scafell Pike.
Was properly snowing when we hit Great End. Stopped here and between Broad Crag and Scafell Pike to eat and put on more gear.
1 PM

Walking 1:03:40 [1] ***
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Intended to run but basically ended up walking off Scafell Pike because the direct route was just big rocks. Got to Mickledore and jogged down to the bottom of the square gully, up past Foxes Tarn (with a stop to get water and numb the hands) to Scafell. Bloody freezing.
Down off Scafell. Don't know how we managed it but we came off the E side of the crags and couldn't be bothered fighting the low vis and snow to get back onto the route.
2 PM

Running hills (Fell) 54:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Out of the snow and got some feeling back in the fingers.
Down to How Beck, round Great Moss, over Scar Lathing, across Lingcove Beck and then just above Black Crag before the never-ending climb up towards Little Stand. Much nicer to run around Cold Pike and down to Red Tarn. Properly tired by this point.
3 PM

Walking hills (Fell) 20:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Up and beginning of the down of Pike of Blisco.
Now raining.

Running hills (Fell) 25:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Down Pike of Blisco and then to ODG for a half and plate of chips.

Running warm up/down (Grass) 8:30 [2]
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190 (torn)

Woke up overnight with another nosebleed and plenty of phlegm in the morning.
Arrived to find I'd been put on the 2nd leg. Oh well, plenty of time to prepare.
Little run around with Jack Wright. Good to see the final controls at the end of the field.

Orienteering race (Relay) 32:47 [5]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190 (torn)

British Orienteering Championships Relays, Helsington Barrows, Kendal.
Mike came in behind Ian Nixon in 12th. John Rocke had mispunched though and Edinburgh Uni were non-competitive.
Got past the Aire guy on the way to number 1 and the Dee guy on the way to 2. Had veered a bit on both legs. Leg 2 was because the line covered a boulder. Saw Rich Robinson leaving the control and seemed to have made up some time. Gaffling was pretty large though.
Punched the wrong crossing point because a bird protection area had been taped off and I had to go left a lot. Realised on checking the number and the near DSQ got me into a better head-space.
Ran around by myself. Tried to go at xc race intensity but definately throttled back a few times to keep it clean.
Turns out I'd made up plenty of places and got us to an official 4th.
L) hamstring good until going very hard at the end.
Ed Nash kept the position. Pretty happy with that result.

Running (Grass/road) 38:30 [3]
(sick) shoes: New Balance 1080

Drove to St Bees Stone road junction (saw no stone).
Gloves, ear/headband, short shorts and singlet... a good look.
Started with about a mile of mainly downhill on the road. To High Walton, through Low Walton and onto the footpath through the valley floor's fields. Bit of a faff to keep on track (including a stamp-off with some boisterous bullocks) but all became clear once I'd seen Stanley Pond and got under the railway line for the straight run into St Bees. Great evening that was cool but bright, green and grassy and full of lambs.
Missed the correct way onto the footpath out of St Bees and ran through Fleatham house without any gunshots or shouts.
Felt pretty fit climbing the hill back up towards the car. Risked a sprint race with some much bigger bullocks whilst crossing one field but they all pussied out, despite my red singlet.
Certainly a bit cooler in the breeze at a mere 100m a.s.l. Got straight in the car.
L) hamstring twinging quite often during the run but had been fine during the day's walking.
Stretch out at home.

Running (Road) 10:47 [3]
(sick) shoes: New Balance 1080

Up to St Benedict's School for Touch Rugby. Forgot how much uphill there is.
6 PM

Touch Rugby intervals 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Nike Mercurial

Had some of the junior doctors come along to make up some subs. They had to be given a crash course in the rules though.
First game and we beat a team full of guys (+ Steve Wright) who usually play rugby. They weren't very fit though.
Al was playing for the team of rugby girls and we won again. I scored off a step. Al was really enjoying a gullible ref!
Played a team of schoolgirls + Paul the organiser next (but due to even more doctors turning up who had no idea what was going on it was pretty close). They were really good at stepping and making breaks but kept fumbling. I only really tried hard when facing Paul and got an early try by just diving at the line while he was standing on it! Upex had turned up for this game so we 13 players for a 6 man sport (Scott, Steve W, Ben, Upex, Neild, Simon Godley on debut and myself were the physio component, Al having defected).
Split the teams up to play against each other. A couple of the doctors were playing well by now: Nubli twinkled through a couple of times against our lazier defenders and the american guy had becaome solid. Mo was on the other team, trying to be impressive but failed miserably. Big irish Kevin was hopeless and Steve was not subtle in his advice... The Korean guy I don't know was getting there.
Ben and Paul got to grips with it this week and I set Paul up with a couple of tries on the wing by drawing in his marker, so he was much happier.
Great fun playing against the others: couldn't sell the dummy to Simon at all, almost chased down Upex on a pitch-long break and everything was going at a bit faster pace at last.
Achey R) Achilles has now come on every time with Touch.
8 PM

Running (Road) 9:30 [3]
