Orienteering 45:00 [4] 5.0 km (9:00 / km) +50m 8:34 / km
shoes: V-J Falcon

Gustavsvik - training run, from the campsite, as the Swedes would not let me run earlier than my start time. In other words I could not compete at day 5!

Note

Great events, great city, great camp site and campers shame about the two days of very heavy rain and the Swedes who would not let me run early as I had a plane to catch, even non comp! What is the matter with people?, I believe the British call them jobsworths!

Kagleborg - It reminded me of the Culbin but much wetter. Proper Swedish orienteering, fantastic.

Biathlon or orienteringsskytte as the Swedish call it, brilliant, what more can you say. Sprint first lap of 1.5km and back for the prone shoot, missed all 5 as my glasses steamed up and I had sweat in my eyes! 800m on the second lap and then the standing shooting. (last time I did this 4 years ago I couldn't hold the gun steady for breathing heavily) This time I took off my glasses!, took my time, tried to slow my breathing and shot all 5! The only person in the competition to do so!

This sport is great and I am going to see if we can get it started in the UK

Dovra Sjoar, the tough bit!, Very physical forest, small miss at 3, 7 and 10 and bad route to 9. I should have gone low and around but climbed up then had to come back down!

Dovra Sjoar, the easy bit!, Small miss on 1 in the green and lost 6 minutes at 13 looking for a spur in an area of spurs not mapped!

Kilsbergen - the clue is in the name, Kils, it hurt! Number 1 had 5 boulders marked in the circle and the description was between boulders. Trouble is in Sweden they only map the ones they are going to use! my plan was to start slow and I did. When I was in the circle there were loads of boulders in an area of small trees and I spent a wee while looking. I decided to go slow to 2 and got to the circle but struggled with the knolls and turned to the right, if I had gone left I was 20m from it! Six minutes later I arrived back at the same spot and found it. So over 30 minutes for the first km and 56 for the rest!
