orienteering 1:28:42 [3] 12.8 km (6:56 / km)

NAOC Long. 2nd place! 3:49 behind Matt Scott. Another solid run. Didn't feel quite as "on" as during the Middle, but was mostly running very well and avoiding significant mistakes. Felt a little sloppy in the control circle, sometimes coming to a complete halt to navigate into controls. Was leading at #19 (68 minutes in) but things unravelled in the last 20 minutes. Made a mistake on the entry to #11 (45 s). Lost about 30 s on #20 (lost contact, hesitation on entry to control). Made a bad route choice to #21 and missed the control on a tricky entry in the green (1.5 minutes), then made a parallel error on #24 due to the mis-placement of #23 (1:45). It's unrealistic to think I "should" have won, but it was certainly nearly in my grasp. Without the error on #24 (not my fault!), I would have been 2 minutes back. If I had held things together at the end, I certainly should have been within a minute, not 4 minutes back.

Overall, an excellent weekend of orienteering. 3rd, 2nd, 2nd is way better than I could have anticipated given my season so far and my preparation in the weeks leading up to NAOC. Awesome!

orienteering 40:56 [3] 6.2 km (6:36 / km)

NAOC Middle. Excellent run. Attacked the course, ran hard and focused really well. Ended up 2nd, about 36 s behind Mike Smith. Caught Wil Hawkins near the end and lost a bit of focus. Had a couple of small bobbles, particularly at #14 where I lost 46 s to Mike (I'd count about 30 s as a "mistake" near the control). Nevertheless, a great run and fantastic to pick up another NAOC medal.

orienteering 11:12 [3] 2.1 km (5:20 / km)

NAOC Sprint - Prelim. Good solid run. Started late so lots of elephant tracks to follow. 5th place - very happy with that. 42 seconds behind the winner (Erik Nystrom) but only 6 seconds out of 2nd.

orienteering 18:16 [3] 3.5 km (5:13 / km)

NAOC Sprint - Final. Went out before the "final 15" so raced on my own. 3 loops and had pretty much figured out the general loops beforehand. Ran quite well and definitely kept the pace high throughout, just a couple of small bobbles (10 s each on #13 and #21). Ended up 3rd, 20 s behind Mike Smith who had the fastest time. Overall - 3rd place and a bronze medal for the NAOC sprint!

Travel - SA to Hamilton. Still feeling a little sick, stuffed up but no sore throat.

Running and hill-bounding with the LH team. Mostly younger kids, "coaching" not "training".

Easy run. Felt a little sluggish starting out, but loosened up nicely. Legs felt pretty fresh. Still have a bit of a head cold and lacked energy overall.
