Tarrywile Green course. Wasn't 100% sure I was going, but the weather looked favorable. Arrived just in time for it to start spitting a bit, so I wore a contact in my left eye to read the map. This exposed how compromised my right eye is now by its cataract. Things look pretty fuzzy. Among the issues: I saw a few other orienteers out there, but couldn't tell if they were people I know or not. Saw a bunch of strange looking creatures on top of the hill going to #4. I think they may have been turkeys. They looked somewhat bird-like, but only judged them to be turkeys because they were in the forest (and therefore unlikely to be great blue herons, for example). Saw something vaguely blue looking up above me when I was heading more or less to #5. What was it? A tarp? Some clothing? A person?
After I finished I saw a couple of young people across the parking lot, and decided to get close enough to find out if I knew them. So once I was that close, the only thing to do was to introduce myself and chat a bit. They are Russians, living in Astoria. Quite pleasant, Andrei and Julia.
Back to the run. Kind of wet, got into a little barberry here and there. Went right to most of them, with some minor errors. Worst was #5. when I hadn't gone nearly far enough and spent some time wandering.
While it had been spitting, it started raining in earnest just when I got into the car to come home, with some sleet thrown in.
