spent the night at the hospital with Rhonda. She is better today than yesterday, had a CAT scan this morning, of which we await results. Deepest difficulty for her is she has been on n.p.o. since she got in and would desperately like to sneak at least a glass of water. Still pumping her full of various liquids and chemicals. In the context of L&F, her g is still way up, mood improving.

Note

CAT scan revealed an abscess, so back in to radiology for more imaging to get the position right, and then a needle through the skin into the abscess to set up a drain. A thoroughly unpleasant experience, but reasonably satisfactory once complete. Has to continue to drain for some indeterminate period, but nutrition is supposed to start tomorrow, and that is something to look forward to. Likely to be here for several days yet.

Meanwhile, this is what Rhonda's brother Randy had to say about her:

tough as steel, that's for sure, like Churchill in a skirt, less the top hat and cigar

Hanging out with Rhonda at the hospital. They still don't seem to know exactly what is wrong with her. I spent the night. Jess came in on the bus this morning. Zack here since noon. Hospitals on the weekend are not real beehives. The ER on Friday night on the other hand was quite a cultural experience. Waiting room packed, every foot of hallway space some unfortunate person lying on a bed waiting to be examined or trundled off somewhere else. A guy in handcuffs, very rough looking, being propelled along by a cop. Rhonda had some level of preferred status, whisked into a private examining room, visited by several impossibly young physicians, and before too terribly long installed in a rather nice private room upstairs. But today not much happening. Lots of IVs applied. No food. No real activity, but a nice family gathering.

New recent PR. started out around a 2:04 pace and just tried to hold it until speeding up gradually over the last 1500. Actually feeling a bit punk after a trying few days, but had enough gumption to keep going.

Abbreviated workout with zack. Bench presses, pullups. Got back to the house and found Rhonda had talked to the doctor and needs to go in to the ER.

Got up at1:45 to leave at 3 for JFK. Rhonda wasn't feeling well so she stayed home. Well, things deteriorated. By the time I landed I had messages that she was in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. So now I am on my way back again. Pretty upsetting not to be there. She is in good hands. Isabel and Cindy helping her. Jess traveling in this evening. I'll get home around midnight or so.
