Note

Went to New England HS cross country championships, held this year in CT. A pretty exciting time as the Canton boys team qualified by virtue of their fine 4th place finish in the state open last week. Mike LeDuc of Canton was 11th (4th CT runner) and Canton ended up 13th overall. Pretty fine. Very slippery. Kids were sliding all over the place, especially after the girls race had chewed up the course in the rain. Our friend Brian was 58th.

cycling (spinning bike) 31:00 [3]

with Rhonda and the girls at 5:45.

Gym 15:00 [3]

circuit of a few exercises - trying not to overdo anything

Note

work was light today, so I put in a store of firewood. Probably spent 3 or 4 hours, mostly splitting and stacking stuff I had cut at various times over the year. Made my back hurt, but I'll rest up tomorrow.

Running 51:52 [3] 5.0 mi (10:22 / mi)
weight:165.5lbs shoes: NB MT840

McLean game refuge, usual route. A nice bit of pacing, as the target was 52 minutes. R calf a little pinchy, but otherwise feeling ok, anticipating the Traverse on Sunday.

Gym 45:00 [3]

Rhonda's morning group - couple of HS kids and some neighbors from Robin Drive - different group from usual. Some things going a bit better. Wrists and elbows taking some of the planks and related things better.

Running 24:12 [3] 5.0 km (4:50 / km)
shoes: NB MT840

Stratton Brook 5k course. Not comparable to the last few times, because I had been turning too soon on the first loop and cutting it short. Interesting - felt hard and I felt out of breath, but my back was ok and even my hamstring wasn't complaining much.

Orienteering race 2:29:16 [3] *** 10.8 km (13:49 / km) +620m 10:44 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: 2009 Yellow NB 840s

Red course at Pond Mt. Much longer than advertised, and a little anxiety because I had promised Rhonda I would be home by noon. didn't make it. navigation was mostly very good, but physically very difficult for me. Only two significant errors - one was heading to the wrong control (and spiking it) only to check the code and realize I was at #14 instead of #11. The other was drifting way low on the way to 13 and having to climb another 5 lines to get back up. After that I was walking almost anything mildly uphill. A lovely day, and a really fun course. Just too long for me today.
