Event: Billygoat

Orienteering race 2:19:38 [4] 10.7 km (13:03 / km) +305m 11:25 / km

31st annual Billygoat. Pretty good run, although not too spunky through the woods. Lost a couple of minutes at #2, where instead of just following the stream of folks I listened to someone nearby who thought we were going too low and spent some time milling around. Skipped 4 and took left fork to #5, where I got frustrated by finding a likely looking boulder with a vetting streamer on it. Then ok, and mostly by myself, until catching up with J-J and Stephen around #10, then following a distant Jim Henderson and Pete Bunschuh on the long trail route to #13, and eventually getting into a big pack, including Tony Federer, Steve Tarry, Paul Bennett, Phil Bricker and a few others. When the pack broke up after #20 I stayed with Steve T, and lost about a minute to others who seem to have gone the long way around on the trail. Pack of 7 at the penultimate control, of whom I was 7th, but had a nice finishing sprint to lead them all in.

Note

Victory for Erik today at the Billygoat, the most prestigious orienteering event in this hemisphere. Nicely done!

RhinO run at Ratlum. A PR, and PRs for 8 of the 15 legs. Worst leg was #12, where it was getting quite a bit thicker, slowing me down, and making me hesitate a bit near the control.

PT exercises 40:00 [3]

working on my shoulder while yoga class went on. First time since I left for CA, and it does make the shoulder ache less.

Note

Report from Nysse on today's track meet. He won a whisker close 3200 m. run against the famous Ryan King of Tolland. Pretty exciting. His report was that the first lap was 20 s slower than any of the others, because neither wanted to lead, but then it was faster and faster. Haven't had the personal interview yet, as he is off watching NHL playoffs at his friend's house.
