Orienteering 1:15:08 [3] 6.1 km (12:19 / km)

Day 1 at Spring Runoff CSU meet. Sinking feeling when I flipped the map and saw it was all dark green and, even worse, purple lines. Still mad enough to rant: What is the purpose of making a whole map green? This was quite a contrast to the really fine maps and courses last week.

PT exercises 45:00 [3]

shoulder exercises, chatting up Zack. Zack left after while, and it was getting tedious, so I skipped the theraband ones.

Running 28:38 [5] 3.2 km (8:57 / km) +130m 7:26 / km
shoes: NB MT840

RhinO. Hot day, and feeling a little stiff after crossfit yesterday. Still a pretty good effort, and PRs on legs 5,6, 8 and 9. Starting to wear some trails in a few places, so I may have to find another route.

PT exercises 50:00 [3]

shoulder work while Rhonda did the bike and the treadmill. Very slow progress, but certainly a lot more when I do the exercises than when I don't

Gym 7:00 [5]

20 reps each of 8 exercises I used to do. Haven't done these in quite a while, so kept it to 20. A pretty good little workout for 7 minutes. Chatted up Zack while I was at it. He was doing a little buffing up himself.

PT exercises 1:00:00 [3]

Working the shoulder again. Have to keep it up. This was rather a communal activity as Erik was on the treadmill doing his interval workout and Oskar and Zack were buffing themselves up and trying to inveigle me into a benchpress session. I resisted, as I had things to do, and certainly not ready for any significant benchpressing. Currently I am doing sets of 50 with a 10 lb bar which works out mostly ok. Harder psychically than physically. Also hardest near the bottom, where the mobility is most limited.

PT exercises 1:00:00 [3]

working on the shoulder this morning while yoga class was going on around me. I have to get serious about this, because I have only been doing the exercises sporadically, and it seems to be getting stiffer.

Orienteering race 59:59 [4] *** 6.0 km (10:00 / km) +190m 8:38 / km
spiked:18/18c shoes: Yellow NB T840

Classic Green Y course at West Pt. A little stiff after yesterday. Couldn't quite face the climb right out of the start that was best to #1, so took the trail N to the reentrant and climbed up there. Cost a few lines, but seemed worth it at the time to let me ease into the course. John Campbell passed me pretty smartly at #2, and took a route a bit more left to #3. I went up the broad saddle then a little trail and curved around, coming in from the W. #6 was a good leg, moving fast down the spur and picking up the trail over the knoll. Took the trail from 7 to 8, and had a hard fall on the way off the road. Caught my foot on a stick and down in a bunch of rocks. Hit my forehead between two big pointy ones, which was a bit of a shock to the system. Walked it off for a bit and then kept going, but it sure was a hard hit.

Checked my watch around #9, and then on the way from 12 to 13 and began to think I had a shot at 60 minutes, which was pretty motivational. A little fuss getting from 16 to 17 because of the barberry and marshy stuff, and leaving 17 I could see that it would be really close. Seconds ticking away as I got into the field and ran really hard to the finish to make it by 1 second. Most satisfying.

Felt like a really good run, but the wily George was even better.
