Orienteering race 50:11 [5] 11.1 km (4:31 / km) +280m 4:01 / km
shoes: Asics - Gel Noosa Tri 25th 200

Kendal urban.
8km 210m.
Went out hard, started to struggle on the big hill. Recovered through the intricate bits in town and pushed hard again to the end.
Only one noticeable error, massive hesitation on a route choice leg near the end which maybe cost 15 seconds. There may have been route choices that I missed but I don't think I lost more than a minute over the whole course.

5th place. 2:39 down on Rich Robinson.
Couldn't have finished any higher with a clean run as 4th was Murray at 49:28.

Orienteering race 32:00 [5] 6.8 km (4:42 / km) +200m 4:06 / km
shoes: Salomon - Fellcross #2

British Relay.

#1 - got a good little route through a bit of green at the start and it put me in the lead of the pack on my gaffle. Rob Baker just managed to get in front of me before the control.
#2 - Rob went too far left so I got ahead. I also went slightly too far left. ~5s
#3 - fine
#4 - almost went to the wrong stile but corrected when I realised that was where the control was.
#5 - fine. Rob still behind me.
#6 - started to feel the burn of the long uphill and Rob pulled away by about 15s.
#7 - Tom Fellbaum went past. Gaffles converged on the gate.
#8 - fine
#9 - almost set off towards #10, corrected quickly. ~2s
#10 - fine until I got near the control, read the number and thought it wasn't mine. After attempting to relocate and working out I was in the right place I looked at the code on my map again and realised it WAS my control, grrrr. The leading pack ran away at this point. ~30s
#11 - bit too far right. ~5s
#12 - tiring a bit again, slightly too far left. ~3s
#13 - tried taking a straight line from the top of the ridge but got into some undergrowth. 10s
#14 - perfect. took the straight line when others were going round.
#15 - okay. Not exactly sure of position. Drifted slightly too far right. 5s
#16 - getting tired. lost 30s to Rob on this leg without making an error.
#17-20 - all easy legs, just a run back through the field.
finish- giving

~25s in navigation errors over the course and a 30s stupid schoolboy error. Happy but annoyed.

After being dropped from the lead pack it was hard to keep up the pace for the rest of the course so probably lost a little more time from that (30s max).

Finished 12th. Todd took over from me and gained 7 places. Then over to Ed to bring us in in 4th place. Well done guys!

We think that's the best ever result for LOC and there's no reason why we can't do it again.
