Orienteering 20:17 [3]

NAOC sprint at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook. The stadium for this event was great! Both the start and finish were on a rubber track and all of the spectators sat in bleachers watching. It was a lot of fun to cheer all of our friends on! Right from the start of the course, I could feel that there was very little left in my legs. I had troubles pushing up the small hill to the first control. My race was pretty clean with some seconds lost to hesitation and 1 bad and another slightly dubious route choice. Despite having to walk a few times on the hills, I didn't see anyone else on my course until the very end when Andrea, who started 3 minutes behind me, almost caught up to me (which I had been expecting to happen much sooner). I sprinted the finish chute as hard as I could to keep from being caught (Thanks Andrea!). I was pleased with my race given my current shape.

Orienteering 1:54:12 [3] 9.3 km (12:17 / km)

I may have come last in the standings but my long NAOC race was a personal victory. I completed the course despite ripping the seat of my pants minutes before race time (thanks Louise for sewing me back up!), running on shoes held together by hope and a lot of tape, and being generally prone to give up on long races especially when I am unfit like I am now. I predicted that I would take 2 hours on the course and I took less than that. I orienteered fairly well, just lacking a bit in aggression and confidence but again the speed was quite slow. The biggest mistake I made was getting pulled off my line by 2 M21 runners who were bolting down the hill to the same control that I was and having to bushwack back along the finish chute. The hardest part of the course was having to punch the go control and head out on a butterfly loop instead of heading down the finish chute.
I really enjoyed the course even though my legs could barely travel up the hills at the end!

Orienteering 55:33 [3]

NAOC middle distance event at Double Duck Flats. I felt pretty good out on the course. I didn't make any huge blow out errors but the fitness wasn't there. I tried to run as much as I could but I walked up all of the hills and wasn't as aggressive in my routes and control picking as I should have been. Still, I was quite happy when I finished the race because I think I performed as well as I could have given my current fitness level.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Thomass event at NAOCs in Kimberly. I ran the score portion of the race and started the sprint course but decided to jog back along the flat trail when I realised that the next control was waaaaaay up a hillside.
Fitness is definitly the main issue for me this weekend.
