MTBO race (Short Course) 59:39 [4] 10.59 km (10.7 kph) +169m
shoes: Avanti Mountain Bike

Short Course at Roleystone due to the rain and being a bit out of it from the flight back from Auckland on Saturday.

A couple of small errors going down dead end tracks and then bush bashing as the track disappeared on to the adjoining track. A bit slow on some of the deep gravel sections and slippery rocks from the rain.

From#12 was cruising along the track parallel to the firebreak track where the finish was, saw the cut off track too late to turn so kept going to the start triangle and around as I thought it was quicker than stopping and turning around. Consequently I did not go past #13 which with heavy rain in my eyes I did not see on the map and thought I just had to go to the finish, I had taken my glasses off by this stage.

So a DNF or MP recorded

Good fun doing the short and thanks to Richard Begley for the courses and tRicky for the map.

Running 27:04 [3] 4.05 km (6:41 / km) +88m 6:02 / km
shoes: Blue Asics

Short run from Ponsonby pad. The freeway blocked access to the water front so not too scenic, like most of NZ lots of hills.

Rangitito Island in Auckland harbour.

One of the many volcanos that formed Auckland harbour and landscape, this one involves a ferry trip or I guess a kayak if you keen. Interesting walk up through the 500-600 year old lava flows. Quite a few have not yet broken down and are barren of any vegetation which makes to think how slow the plants are to take over barren land. Nice crater at the top to look into.

A couple a lava caves off the main route - forgot a torch but called a few years of caving experience to get though feeling the walls before I got back into the light again.

Enough geology to make an old geo happy :-)

Long slow walk around parks and gardens in Auckland city. Legs tired from the O weekend.

Orienteering race (Kiwi Relay Champs) 51:11 [4] 5.64 km (9:05 / km) +199m 7:43 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

In an Ad-hoc team with a Swiss Couple - Stefan and Alexandra Altorfer who were holidaying in NZ. Stephan 1st off and came in around 10th about 7 mins off the lead, I had been told mine was a 2km course - guess what it was 4.2km. Not as complex as the previous 2 days but still steep and rough to run (or walk) through. Alexandra finished off with an impressive 40mins only a couple of minutes behind Lizzy Ingham's time

Stephan unfortunately MPed only an SI Box that did not wake up :-(
