Orienteering race 1:47:11 [5] 15.9 km (6:44 / km) +520m 5:48 / km

Started really well was 17th at 6 and 23rd at 8. Then I cocked up 9 and speaking to Craney afterwards he had exactly the same experience. Couldn't fit the map to the ground then thought I'd identified the big yellow depression but it was something else...not sure what, lost 2 mins.

Another 1.5 min loss at 11 right in the circle just running around the small hill unable to find the tiny reentrant. Then it all went wrong at 14 came in off the path but could not read the map at all in the circle and still can't now sat still. Seriously no idea what is going on there but I had to relocate and still didn't find it...5 mins loss and the race gone. 30 secs at 16 then clean.

2.5mins down on Bown who was fairly clean but I lost 9 mins so really really dissapointed. Still I thought I'd done enough to get in the BOK first team, Clive did 6.5mins per k for 9k and I did 6.7 for 16k (with more errors than I'd expect to make in the relay) was pretty convinced I'm faster than Clive and shown I was running faster than Bown and have a very good record on first leg of relays.

...so I was pretty devastated when I was told Clive had been selected and I hadn't.

Orienteering race 38:12 [5] 5.47 km (6:59 / km) +125m 6:16 / km

Determined to do better than sprint and show I should be in the first relay team. Overall fairly pleased, 45 sec error at 16 not realising that the dark green was representing a fallen tree. Then 30 sec loss at 21 which I was really pissed off about as I lost 3 places, didn't look at the descriptions but navigated to the centre of the circle...cannot believe that the circles aren't centred properly at the JK!!!

Pleased with my running though still wouldn't say I'm that fit and pretty competitive. Beat the othe BOK guys apart from Craney so showed I had the speed for the relay.

Event: JK 2010

Orienteering race 19:11 [5] 3.25 km (5:54 / km) +40m 5:34 / km

Started really well and was running strongly, such a shame that I made two 45sec errors at 11 and 13, otherwise the result would have been good. Very disappointed.

Orienteering (Merthyr Mawr) 1:00:00 [3] 6.5 km (9:14 / km)

Saunders set up I nice 50 control control pick on some sand dunes for us. Really pleased only a couple of errors and only one largish minute one in quite a vague are with lots of form line contours.

Started easy but kept catching Tim up and I had to collect 22-39 so had to wait for him to get away a bit. Hard to keep a good rythm stopping to pick up controls but after this I sped up a bit...that's when I made a min error but good after that, nice confidence booster but I'd find it really hard to push hard on that and not make mistakes.

Note

Having another rest day. Out training on some sand dunes tomorrow.

Note

Felt fine physically which just shows my lack of effort/interest after first half yesterday. So sleep deprived though. Oh well will have to make up for it at the JK.
