Orienteering 2:00:00 [1]

Map hike at Beaumont Scout Ranch meet with two women from Let's Hike Meet-Up group (they've been bringing 10-15 members to most local meets.) Odd mix: Gen was used to contour maps; Suzie was totally new to compass and map. Worked well. Both got a good sense of contours, take a bearing, and matching land to map. Coming from state of Washington, Gen was not impressed by the first 1 m mapped 'rock face'. :)

Running 30:40 [2]

Beautiful 50's and sunny. Is this only the 2nd 'day of spring' in March for St. Louis? To be followed by 6+ inches of snow and another cold week. Ugh.

Legs a bit heavy from Beaumont yesterday and today, but run in TGP felt pretty good. Reading Yellowwood State forest map for the Pig. Lots of convoluted reentrant systems - looks great!

Orienteering 1:35:00 [1]

Hanging controls at Beaumont for BSA meet. Though cloudy and chilly, great day to be out - Beaumont always warms one up fast.

Good map reading without compass. Off 90 degrees twice, caught it. Unsure about distance a couple times.

Swimming 40:00 [2]

10*6 sets. Driving home from Beaumont, told self, "If I don't stop at Y on way home, I'll never come back later today." So, self stopped at Y. 6 sets then machines sounded good. Didn't have correct machine log so I'll do usual 8 sets. Start of 7th set, "Breathing and stroke are really smooth today. I'll stretch it to 10 sets" Done!

Note

With 'bridge genes' from Mom finally being expressed, I've taken a few Continuing Ed classes this spring and just played 5 sessions (about 100 hands) in a major duplicate tournament in St. Louis. Wow - overwhelming.

I enjoyed it, playing with 5 different partners. Mostly 'decent' results but did pick up about 2 Red Points from two of the sessions! So much to learn!
