Orienteering race 1:55:20 [4] 7.8 km (14:47 / km)

Several gullies were VERY steep - as expected. With 5 m contours on 1:10000 map, I still don't appreciate that even 2-4 tight contours is a really step hill - even though I've been on map twice before. But vegetation and standing water were not as bad as expected. Even dark green was passable. Honey suckle and wild rose were not in blooom yet. I orienteered well with regards to execution; but my route choice on 2 & 4 and map error (below) on 1, made the first 40% much more physical than needed - relaly wore me down. Well-designed Long Green course - best times around low 80's.

Held onto 3rd in M55; but about 7 M60's beat me. I had 115 minutes; 100-110 was a 'popular time'.

S-#1 was frustrating. Organizers had warned that 'lake was up' but should not bother route choices. I chose left of red line in order to find easy climb across stream; I fell left of that and faced a 30m wide lake instead of a crossable inlet stream. 400-500 m to north along edge until I could cross. Right along long spur was alternate choice I had seen - MUCH better in hindsight. Lost 4-5 minutes and tough start for legs.
