Orienteering race 34:22 [3] *** 5.2 km (6:37 / km)
spiked:8/20c shoes: Innov8 X-Talon 212

British Middle Distance Champs, Strensall Common, York - M55, 6th =
A very flat but surprisingly rough and wet area. Got off to a bad start when I started looking for no. 2 in a pit in the open just before a patch of runnable (white) woodland. Saw people punching a control in the trees and on closer inspection there was a patch of light green woodland before the white stuff - a colour I could hardly make out when contrasted with the orangey rough open colour. That knocked my confidence and I had multiple misses after that - particularly badly on 5, a miniscule pit amongst heather and with the control hidden in the bottom. This type of pit was a recurring feature of the course! Frustrating!!!!!
