Orienteering 16:59 [3] *** 2.2 km (7:43 / km)
18c shoes: Sacony Xodus

Golden Gate Park Prelim Sprint Heat 4 with Presto! Super fun course that was basically 4 butterfly loops. The first control was the center of the butterfly, and although I'd been looking for my second control on the map the entire way there, I still had to stop at the control. Turns out it was the furthest away loop and there was an entire butterfly loop between my first and second controls. Otherwise, this was fairly clean. I bobbled a bit coming into the center control once when I thought I knew where it was and started reading ahead for the next loop and then got confused with big vs little trails a few times. Lots of fun and lots of mud and fast enough to make it into the semi-finals!

Orienteering 14:59 [3] *** 2.4 km (6:15 / km)

Semi-finals Heat A at Golden Gate Park! Started out at the back of the pack watching some combination of the map and where everyone else was going. The group accordianed into the second control, making me initially think a mistake had been made and I'd caught up to the front of the pack. Turns out the control was stolen. After some discussion, we all trouped back to the start and got a new start time and told Heat B about the missing control.

OK. Start round 2. I was still trying to read the map at first because I wasn't sure if there would be forks, but it fairly quickly became obvious there weren't forks, so I just hung on to the pack until we got to the score-O box. The score-O box did exactly what it was supposed to do - completely breaking up the pack. Unfortunately, I hadn't really looked much at the best order and took them suboptimally and was completely alone for the rest of the race. Super, super fun!

Open final round at Golden Gate Park! None of the women made it into the final, so we were competing on total time for all 3 rounds. I was in first place by 2 seconds, which was kind of a fun place to be for once :-).

It was interval starts for those of us in the open group, so while I did see people out there, it wasn't like the heats. Things were going pretty well until I got confused in a green section with piles of trails. I probably lost 30-40 seconds in there and the lead for the day. Oh well. That's orienteering. Still a super fun sprint, and well worth standing out in the rain all day!

Running 30:00 [3] 3.1 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 16

Running with Sam and Presto in the rain after lab! Tired tonight. Also, tight. I'm guessing a day spent either in front of the computer or schlepping my flasks around campus in the rain in search of working autoclaves was probably the culprit. Ugh. Autoclaves...

Anyway, it was really good to get out, although Presto hilariously took one look outside and was like, um, nope, I really don't need to pee or go for a run after all. Luckily for him, he doesn't get to make decisions like that, and he ended up having a good time, although he did spend most of the run hiding in Sam's rain shadow :-).

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching felt really, really good tonight.

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Running felt really good tonight, which was nice. Presto is always particularly spritely when it is chilly out, so we were a lively bunch :-).

Running 1:19:19 [3] 8.0 mi (9:55 / mi)

Running with Presto on the Nimitz Trail! It seemed like a good day for a run in the sun (it's actually been something approaching chilly here lately), so Presto and I headed up to Inspiration Point. It wasn't too windy today, so it was extremely pleasant on the trail. There were lots of cows out sunbathing and lots of people out walking, and it was great to just run for a while.

Stretching 10:00 [3]
