Checked out the Kitchener parkrun - a free 5K that takes place every Saturday at 9 am around the world. I had done a couple of these in Scotland and always wished we had them over here as I love the idea of people being able to race without cost which can be prohibitive. By happenstance I found out there was one that had been taking place since April just a few minutes from my house. It was a small (27 runners) and very friendly group where I was immediately as a new person and made to feel very welcome. I was told stories about families who had come out every week since it started, which I thought was very cool.

The route itself wasn't particularly inspiring - 3.75 laps on a paved path around a lake, but since I can't remember the last time I ran a 5k and pushed a bit, was a fun experiment.
I imagine I'd get pretty bored of this every week, but it's great to know it's there for when I feel like starting off the weekend with a punchy little road run!
