Orienteering race 5:02:00 [3]
I was so excited when a couple of weeks ago simpy suggested that he, BiT and I reunite for Raid the Hammer. I hadn't intended on doing this race but I couldn't turn down the opportunity to race with two of my all-time favorite teammates! We agreed that the goal was to go out and enjoy a fun day in the woods together.
BiT and I agreed that Mike should go to A at the beginning to knock some piss and vinegar out of him. BiT and I then went to B, and we did C and D together before heading towards 2. Throughout the entire day, simpy's nav was bang on and it was reassuring to know that we weren't putting in any extra kms than necessary. The only bobble we had was en route to A in the second scramble where we went to the far side of the train track (to avoid traveling on it, as per the rules) and then had to wait for five minutes to cross back as there was a train going by.
My legs were feeling the climbs by the end of the day and I felt like my lack of off-trail travel time this year was evident as I was pretty unsure going down some those gullies and slopes, but the weather was beautiful, the company was excellent and highly entertaining, and despite the fact that we weren't moving that fast, simpy made our route choices as efficient as possible. A fabulous day in the woods with friends!
