Snowshoe Raid with Mrs. Tiny. We actually thought we had a pretty good plan going into this but having read some other reports and now seen the results, I can see that our route choice was overly conservative and not particularly strategic!
Fairly quickly we decided against going up by 48, so we planned a route that would try to capitalize on some of the other high pointers, like 63-64, the 57-56 pair, and a few of other 20-pointers along the way. As always, there were some adjustments on course so we ended up doing 42, 43, 64, 63 to start. Our plan after 63 was to go to 55, but we ended up following the wrong streambed and ended up coming out on the road at the aid station. So we modified our initial plan and went from 54 to 56, then 57, then 55 and took the snowmobile trail back down towards 54 and the road. We didn't want to miss 41, so took off our snowshoes for a road run down to that and with 30 minutes still left, heading up the snowmobile trail to get 44. In hindsight, I am sure we would have gone up to get 48 as it doesn't sound as bad as we thought it would be, and we would have tried to make greater use of the trails that were more packed down, as we ended up breaking trail a few times which was really slow going.
Oh well! It was a lovely day out in the woods with great company and it was really fun to be somewhere different for this race.
