Running race 2:53:16 [3] 25.0 km (6:56 / km)

Run for the Toad 25km. Realize this was closer than ideal to Oil Creek next week but wanted to test out some gear and food and feel confident that my achilles was going to hold up okay. Plus, the Toad is a great race and I've missed it the past couple of years.

Plan was to treat it like the 50km - run at a sustainable pace, walk the hills I'd walk in the 50km, and practice eating, drinking, etc. I also wanted to try to run as even loops as possible by being conservative on the first loop as I consistently have tendency to run too fast at the beginning and then suffer for it later. The Ambit has helped a ton in this regard, in fact, I think that telling me when I'm going too fast has proven to be its most useful function!

1st loop: 1:26:30
2nd loop: 1:26:47

I don't think I can get much more consistent than that! Was still feeling really good at the end of the first loop and wondering when the wheels were going to fall off the bus but they didn't. I think I've found a combination of drinks / gels that seems to work for providing consistent energy. My favorite part of this course is the last 3.5km so on the second loop I tried to save some energy so I could push a bit more once I saw the 9km mark. Crossed the finish line feeling like I could keep going so while this may not have been a smart decision physically with OC next weekend, it was definitely a mental confidence boost. Like last weekend, Achilles was present but not overly uncomfortable and some work I had done on my ankle last weekend really made a difference on my downhill running.
