Running 2:17:00 [3]
On different occasions was told that this run was going to be a "wee ramble" and "an easy recovery run." While I like to think my Scottish is pretty good, this was a lost in translation moment for sure as what I realize now what was meant by recovery run was go out and do something harder than the race so that the race doesn't seem so hard anymore! I'm saying that in jest as this turned out to be one of the best runs of my life.
Drove out from Glasgow to the Glengoyne distillery where we did a distillery tour and had a dram which took some of the sting out of my legs. Started the run from the distillery up Dumgoyne. Was told that morning I should be using my Spikecross again but protested because they didn't match my outfit. Was less than ten minutes into the first climb where I was regretting this as the terrain was much too slick for my Mountain Masochists. What felt like a long tough climb up Dumgoyne made for an even sketchier downhill off the back side. From there, we just went up and down and up and down a bunch of the "campsies" until we had to head back before the gate at the parking lot was locked. No snow where we parked the car but lots on hills, which I realized I was much more comfortable running on (especially on descents) than some of the other terrain.
A couple of things were really memorable about this run: one, I decided it was the official my achilles is really healed run as if Carnethy didn't awaken Daniel, nothing would! Second, my legs felt pretty rough at the start of this but once they warmed up I realized they had lots of juice in them which was a big confidence booster. The scenery was so spectacular and I had many moments on this run that were the epitome of why I like to run in the first place. Truly, truly, magical.
That said, my legs do not quite feel 100% today but Achilles is fine. Definitely its biggest test since last May!
Very fun way to spend a weekend. Really love the terrain and the running culture in Scotland.
