Adventure Racing race 2:17:29 [4]

Pinecrest course at LRS. In 2009, I had a terrible mental experience trying the Championship course with Marcus. I wasted all my energy that day worrying that I was going too slowly and letting him down and we ended up DNF'ing. I haven't been back since and didn't feel mentally or physically up to the Championship course (people seem to think I'm a lot tougher than I actually am!).

Drove up Saturday morning in the rain and felt reassured about my decision, especially when a text from my Pinecrest4Eva friend Hermes told me it had been pouring up there all night. I arrived just before the start of the Championship course and really felt for everyone starting a long day in the rain!

Borrowed BiT's boat (I named her Cathy) and after thinking we might part ways in the first 30 seconds, developed a quick amicable relationship with her. I think that was the first time I'd been in a real boat and was impressed with how much more efficient it was than my big blue bathtub! Was pleased with the paddle and had a very quick transition onto the bike.

Bike went well. I got caught up in a mess of boys in the muddy stuff who couldn't decide from one moment to the next if they were going to stay on their bikes, crash their bikes, or push their bikes, so I was happy to ditch them once we hit the road. Really enjoyed the bike course though and it was over before I knew it.

Wasn't particularly looking forward to the run but knew it wouldn't last long. Getawaystix's course was super fun, especially the parts of the trail I am pretty sure he made himself! Definitely could have pushed myself harder here but that (along with hills) just ain't my forte! I did try to stay respectably out of my comfort zone.

Hermes was waiting for me at the finish and after a bit of debate, we jumped into the lake in our clothes before heading back to the cabin for hot showers and cold beers. Got back to the finish line in time to watch Bash come across looking strong and enjoyed the rest of the evening with AR friends and great food.

Overall, a really great experience and hopefully one that will encourage me to (perhaps) try the Championship course next year.

Cycling 59:00 [3]

Very stressful day at work, so a spin through my usual route at Puslinch was a great way to end the day!

Cycling 1:50:00 [3] 44.5 km (2:28 / km)

Great day to get out for a ride with no particular destination in mind. Took a photo of a map on my phone and just made right turns when I felt like it. Good combination of paved and unpaved roads, with a unexpectedly delightful sojourn through the trails at Fletcher Creek Ecological Reserve which I stumbled upon on a concession road.

Teammates: don't be concerned. Although you may wonder if someone was holding a gun to my head and forcing me to ride on the road, I assure you I went out of my own free will. :)
