Cycling 55:00 [3]

Mrs. Tiny and I had a fun catch-up ride around Puslinch while Tiny and Andrew babysat Aubrey.

Running 40:00 [3]

Careful to choose only doubletrack this morning lest any part of my body touch anything green. Poison ivy has spread to everywhere except my arms, including all over my stomach, rib cage, and one of my boobs (exceptionally uncomfortable). :( I'm on predinosone, taking a 24 hour antihistamine and using Fucidin (corticosteroid) and Benadryl creams. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know!

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Spin around Puslinch trails. Everything feels good after WT, except for my bike gears! Unfortunately, I went into the race with some nasty poison ivy that I was secretly hoping swamp water would cure (hey, it could happen, right?) The opposite happened and it's way worse than before. A doctor's visit, tetanus shot, some prednisone and a corticosteroid cream later and I'm hoping I'll be back in dresses by next week!

Adventure Racing race 7:37:00 [3]

Another great race with the Bugs in Teeth boys and Marcus. My first attempt with this event in 2010 involved me being carted off the course with hypothermia, so I was looking forward to trying to complete it this time around!

As always, the boys were uber-prepared when Marcus and I arrived on Friday afternoon. Registration went smoothly, dinner and our quirky room at the Bala Bay Inn were great and simpy had every map of the area known to man cached on his computer. We all got to bed in a reasonable hour and at 5:00 a.m. four different alarms sounded!

We were near the back of the pack getting to the canoes and jostled back and forth with several teams throughout the paddle sections. We all loved the windy rivers. Had an efficient transition onto the first trek, where once again simpy showed us how much experience and confidence he has gained as a navigator. I'm sure our route choices were different than the top teams, but I don't think he ever once made a mistake on course and we always found the CP exactly where we were looking for it.

We hit the swim across the Severn river just after 9:00 p.m. Our TA2 was a bit more leisurely but we still tried not to waste too much time. We did all of the first bike in the dark and I have to admit I really enjoyed it; I had mentally prepared myself for much worse. One night of hike-a-biking at RTNX last year was one of (if not the) worse race experience of my life, so I now compare all bike sections to that! We were on and off our bikes a bit but I thought that the terrain and trails were really fun. I would like to try it in the daylight sometime!

We didn't go into the race either expecting or not expecting to make the 1:00 a.m. cut-off; we were just going to race our own race and see what happened. When we left TA2, we didn't think we were likely to make it and that was okay with everyone. We arrived at CP9 around 3:00 a.m. and got what we needed from our bins to complete the short course. As a side note, I thought it was really awesome that race staff took our Bin #1 here for us knowing that short course racers might not have what they needed. Kudos!

CP9-15 proved a bit more mentally challenging than the first bike as we were off and on quite a bit more during the first bit. When it rained, I had a bit of a panic as that was what happened to me in 2010. At the first drop, I literally demanded that everyone get off their bikes and put on their rain gear; fortunately, the rain was short-lived and everyone stayed warm. The trails got better and more rideable as we went on.

Hit the final paddle TA at about 6:30 and had much better boat selection than the first one. It was very cool to paddle across the lake with the mist and sun, and even more rewarding to cross the finish line, even of the short course, all together!

Enjoyed a post-race beer, breakfast, and short nap before doing some gear sorting and heading home, wishing I had taken today off of work like Andrew had! I had a great time out there with the boys, where there is a neverending supply of jokes, impersonations, Anchorman quotes, insults and all around good times!
