Running race 5:54:00 [3] 50.0 km (7:05 / km)

When I started working with Jen in Februrary to prepare for RTNX, I identified a sub 6 hour 50K at Sulphur as my secondary goal. In the past few days, I was starting to doubt whether or not I could do that, but fortunately everything aligned well for me today and I was able to knock 31 minutes off my time from the same race last year.
Ran the first 10K a few minutes faster than last year, which concerned me a bit since my plan was to run it slower, but I was still feeling good through most of the first 20K loop. I was anxious to get onto the last loop as even though I knew it would feel worse physically I knew that it would be easier mentally. Last year, this loop was a huge FAIL, taking 30 minutes longer than my first 20K loop. This year, I was less than 7 minutes slower on the second 20K than the first, which I was really happy with. There was still a very brief pity party I want to have a temper tantrum on the side of the trail because I am sick of running that transpired between hours 4-5. Generally speaking though, felt like I ate well, drank well, and managed my pace much better than last year. Ran the first 32 km without music, and then invoked the magical powers of Taylor Swift and friends to get me through the last couple of hours.
