Annual end of April trip to Michigan for Trail Marathon weekend. Bummed that it conflicted with RTR this year, but always excited for Earl's first big adventure of the year. We headed down Friday and had a prime campsite right on a lake. Friends arrived later and we had a fun but early evening around the fire.

I was super pumped for this race - achilles is feeling good and I'm feeling really strong right now after a consistent winter of training. It was the most ready I've felt for a race in awhile, which gave me a lot of confidence. Started a bit under pace but after a couple of miles started trying to move up and be consistent for the rest of the race. Felt so good and strong and had to tell myself to keep it in my pants until the 10M mark. No real energy dips or negative thoughts went through my brain at all and every step was enjoyable. I actually set a goal for this race of being under my time from last year and ended up about 12 minutes faster, which I was super happy with. And even better, everything felt good the next day too, which was a pleasant surprise!

Beautiful morning to explore the trails at McGregor Point. Fresh snow overnight meant that there were lots of cool animal tracks to try to identify. If I learned anything about this from Mrs. Tiny, I'm pretty sure I spotted some jaguar tracks?

When I returned, Earl was waiting with my favourite Sunday morning breakfast - breakfast potatoes and veggie bacon!

Trekking/Hiking 1:30:00 [2]

Greg D. brought his boys over to McGregor and we spent a couple of hours exploring the trails and smashing ice on rocks. Then we had the first campfire of the year!

Little toodle to pick up Earl at the garage. He's all ready to rock and roll! Can't wait to freeze our butts off this weekend!

Running 1:30:00 [3]

Drove to Island Lake Recreation Area and back to join in a group run with my Michigan runner friends. They have a neat tradition that I think would be worth re-creating here: an easter themed run where "bunnies" go out on the trail beforehand and hide easter eggs full of treats and fireball. Local running stores donate to the event and I found an egg with a $20 giftcard in it! No fireball sadly though... afterwards there was a fun potluck. I knew I'd not regret going if I did, even when my alarm went off at 4:00!
