Snowshoeing 45:00 [3]

Long weekend in Vermont - one of my favourite places in the world!

Spent most of the day driving but went out just before sunset on a snowshoe trail up a hill at the back of the inn I was staying.

It was labelled on a map as a snowshoe trail but no one had snowshoed it in some time so it was hard work! Totally worth it for the spectacular sunset though! :-D

X-Country Skiing 2:00:00 [3]

Bluebird day for x-country skiing at Georgian Nordic. I'd never been and always find it extra exciting to see trails for the first time, especially on such a gorgeous day! Hammer and Starr joined us and took us on an excellent tour of the trails, which were in wonderful shape. The snow was a bit slow in the best way possible for building downhill turning confidence! We all had a blast and replenished all the calories burned and more at Trestle Brewing Company in Parry Sound afterwards.

X-Country Skiing 2:08:00 [3]

Day 2 of Ski Orienteering was both as successful and less successful as Day 1. It was as successful because Browner, Amber and I went out together and did as much laughing as we did orienteering. It was slightly less successful in that we recognized early on that we were not likely to complete the LONG course in our goal time of 2 hours quite early on, so because we didn't take an SI card again and didn't want to be out there all day, we started dropping controls fairly early on. I think we skipped about 5-6 of the 20 controls and ended up with about 12km on the watch, focusing on avoiding areas we had already been to on a prior loop. We found everything we were looking for but were pretty spent by the last half hour or so.

These were both super fun events and I am grateful to the course setters for taking the time to design and set up the course and to Bash for suggesting it. Now if only all the snow weren't disappearing!

X-Country Skiing 1:35:00 [3]

Ski Orienteering with Bash at Scenic Caves. I was nervous about both the skiing and orienteering part of this, so was quite relieved when she suggested we go together without an SI card and treat it as training.

I was a bit of a chicken on my skis at first but my confidence built throughout the morning and the snow conditions helped with that. It was a fun course that took us up and down most parts of the trail system. There were some really sketchy winds at the top that made us both glad we were together!

All in all, this seemed like a success. We found all the controls and had a great time!

Snowshoeing 1:26:00 [3]

After a yummy lunch, we headed back out for some snowshoeing on a lovely route up Lover's Loop and back down another trail along the river. There was lots of traffic going up but the route we took down was nice and quiet and very much a winter wonderland. It was really fun to actually need snowshoes and explore some new trails I hadn't seen before! I definitely felt that I earned my dinner today!
